MR. RAI SINGH DAHIYA
THE JOURNEY FROM FARMER TO THE GRASSROOTS INNOVATOR…..

Mr Raisingh Dahiya who had no formal

education was a farmer for long time.
His education & background never let
him stop to do something innovative
which can be beneficial to the farmers
and can have a revolutionary social &
environmental impact on the society.
He was spending long time listening to
BBC radio, where he learnt that smoke
releases from traditional chulha and
crop burning generates a large amount
of CO2 and other poisonous gases. This
not only causes serious health issues
but also affects our ozone layer.
He observed all this in his village. He
also observed that farmers were
unable to grow crops due to lack of His innovation was appreciated

BIOMASS GASIFICATION TECHNOLOGY

Biomass gasification involves burning of biomass

under restricted air supply for the generation of
producer (syn) gas. Producer gas is a mixture of gases;
1. Carbon monoxide (CO) – 18-22%
2. Carbon dioxide (CO₂)- 8-12%
3. Hydrogen (H₂) – 8-12%
4. Methane (Ch₄) – 2-4%
5. Nitrogen(N₂)- rest

produces 2NM³
Gas or 0.75KW

GASIFICATION REACTIONS

• Biomass is heated to 100⁰C,

DRYING moisture is converted into
steam

• Burns biomass without supplying any oxygen,

PYROLYSIS
• Biomass is decomposed into solids, liquids & gases

• takes place at about 700⁰C- 1400⁰C

COMBUSTION • produce carbon dioxide and heat

• Gases as carbon dioxide,

REDUCTION hydrogen & methane take place

11
GASIFIER DESIGNS WE OFFER

DOWNDRAFT GASIFIER
Downdraft gasifier is the most common type
of gasifier. In downdraft gasifiers, the pyrolysis
zone is above the combustion zone & the
reduction zone is below the combustion zone.
Fuel is fed from the top. The flow of air and gas
is downwards through the combustion &
reduction zones. A downdraft gasifier is so
designed which is produced in the pyrolysis
zone travels through the combustion zone
where it is burnt. As a result the mixture gases
in exit stream are relatively clean.

ADVANTAGES OF DOWNDRAFT GASIFIER

1. Simple design.
2. Low tar contents as most of the tar is
burnt in combustion zone.
3. Best option for usage in gas engines.
4. At lower loads, fewer particles in the gas.

UPDRAFT GASIFIER
In updraft gasifier, air enters from below the
grate & flows upwards, whereas the fuel flows
downwards. An updraft has distinctly defined
zones for partial combustion, reduction,
pyrolysis & drying. The gas produced in the
reduction zone leaves the gasifier reactor
together with the products of pyrolysis from
the pyrolysis zone & steam from the drying
zone.

ADVANTAGES OF UPDRAFT GASIFIER

1. Simple design.
2. High charcoal burn out.
3. High fuel to gas conversion efficiency.
4. Accepts fuels with high moisture contents.
5. Accepts fuels of different sizes.
6. Accepts fuels with foreign particles such as
sands. 12

FEATURES OF ESB-R BIOMASS GASIFIER POWER PLANT

ESB-R biomass gasifier has some unique features

which makes it advantageous than other available
models in the market. They are stated as below:

1. Smallest in size, PORTABLE, sound proof

system. Most suitable for villagers as they have
plenty of agro-waste available with them
which can be used to produce their own
electricity by using this gasifier. As it’s a
portable unit, the villagers can use it in
multiple purposes like in day time they can use
it for irrigating their farms and use it to
electrify their house in nights.
2. Maximum atomization like automatic initial
firing.
3. Most of the available gasifier in market use
water for cleaning the gas which requires a
huge quantity of water and water purification
plant which results in high cost. We use dry
filtration where these things are not required.
4. Reliable, rugged and compact system.
5. Low maintenance and easy to operate.
6. Reachable to both urban and rural people.
7. Replace the fossil fuel.
8. Environmental friendly.

FEEDSTOCKS - FOREST WASTES

FOREST HARVEESTING
Forest harvesting is major source of
biomass for energy. Harvesting
operations usually removes 25-50%
of the total plant, leaving the
residues available as biomass for
energy. Stands damaged by insects,
disease or fire are additional source
of biomass energy.

PINE NEEDLES
Most regions of the Northern
Hemisphere have pines which attributes
the main cause of the forest fires. Our
system runs perfect on these pine
needles which not only help in lighting up
homes and lives across these regions but
also avoids the forest fire.
