LIVE WORK ELIMINATION

HENRI FRAISE FILS&CIE (FORT DAUPHIN BRANCH)

INTRODUCTION : LIVE WORK ELIMINATION

Working with the HME present high risks of injuries or fatal risks and our SAFETY REPORTS 2020
employees always exposed on theses risks .
EI
We have realized 341 422 hours without Lost Time Injuries last year. 18%
Mat
However we had safety findings occurring last two years which allowed Near miss
dammage
55%
27%
us to re-focuse on the gaps and improvements to be made in terms of
security.
Apart from the risk management already in place, we committed to :
- Review all approved AST
- Eliminate live work on the 47 AST if it do exist AIFR 0,00 %

2020 : 341 422 HOURS WITHOUT LTI

1 638 286 SAFE MAN HOURS WITHOUT LTI

HOW TO PROCESS? REVIEW RISK ASSESSMENT

Our priority was to review the existing 47 AST recorded in

.
QMM’s share point. Why we want to review the QMM’s
approved AST? 90% of the finding or near miss that we have
recorded in 2019-2020 was the result of AST which doesn’t
match the job that the mechanics performed…herewith the
last non compliance AST & Task recorded
We have 47 approved AST in QMM share point

• 100% of the AST have been revised,

and waiting for QMM approval.

• Finding Non complience

2019

• Project AST review

2020-2021 • Non complience occuring

• AST + Pocedure SIS = SOP

2021 • Live Work Elimination
How we can improve the current AST?
We have combined the step in the current AST with the procedure SIS CAT:
- All the risks related of the task have been detected and the measure to control the risks have been highlighted,
- We have tried to use the maximum pictures in the revised AST,
- The details of the required tools have been mentioned on the revised AST
Current AST & AST + Procedure SIS (SOP)

Current docs –AST AST + SIS Procedure = SOP

Ces SOP faciliteront la compréhension en terme de sécurité et les procédures à suivre pour chaque tâche.
WHY LIVE WORK ELIMINATION ?

When our mechanics perform the testing,

commissionning or troubleshooting, most of the time the
equipment required to be energized and the mechanics
have to enter on the line of fire of the machine.
Otherwise, the job can be correctly done…

How can we remove the worker from live work ?

* By using specifics tools
* By challenging the procedure in place (AST)
How many live work do exist in the work place

LW LWE
LW

61% of the recorded AST have a LW 68 % of the LW have been eliminate

39 % don’t have LW 32 % remains live work until now…..

Most of the AST just need to review so

the live work can be eliminate but some
of them required specific tools to
eliminate LW
What are these specifics tools to be ordered ?

A range of specialized tools is available for the realization of the project.

One such tool, affectionately known as R2D2, is a remote-controlled camera mounted List of the required tools for this project
on an anti-vibrating base that can swivel 360° to carry out a wide range of inspections
on live machines. Controlled from a tablet, the camera provides the operator with a  Camera Go Pro avec Tablette de lecture (TBC)
real-time view and can record the session for closer follow-up investigation.  Booster électrique sans fil 24V/12V (Available)
Davey says the camera’s resolution and 30-times optical zoom allow operators to read
gauges, look for leaks and even carry out pre-maintenance checks.  Multimètre numérique wifi/ longue portée (TBC)
One of these tools is a remote control camera mounted on an anti-vibration base that  Boost Leak Detection Using 533-1177 Leak (TBC)
can rotate 360 ° to perform a wide range of inspections on powered machines. Controlled
from a tablet, the camera provides the operator with a real-time view and can record the  Wireless bluetooth pressure transducer (On order)
session for further follow-up investigation
“Inspections are often the first part of a task and this camera allows those carrying out
the work to stay out of the danger zone, particularly if a machine is running,” he said
range of tooling to allow both mobile and workshop-based mechanics to carry out
numerous inspection and testing requirements without the need to work in proximity of
high-risk areas

REDUCING RISK DURING LIVE TESTING IF LW remains

Procuring specifics tools Devices will help to reduce risk

during Live Testing. But if live work remains? following
safety controls are to be respected to avaoid injuries od
fatalities
• Barricading of work area
• Steering lock
• Placing of ‘Live Testing’ signage
• Use of wheel chocks
• Positive contact between operator and
mechanics
• Adequat AST
• ………….
