CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Everyone has the ability to choose what is best for them based on their own
perspective or point of view. Decision making is one of the most difficult task among
student because it can cause a dilemma or confusion especially in choosing the strand they
will take. There are some students who go to college but don’t know what exactly they
want to major in. Right now, most junior high school graduates know what course they
want to pursue in grade 11-12. Students will be more likely to learn if they are studying
things in accordance with their passion and talent.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this study is to quantitatively examine the perspective of the
students on choosing the General Academic Strand. It also discover the things they
consider on choosing strand. The researchers’ study will be able to determine what the
things that hinders their learning are. Also determine if they really chose the right track for
them. A junior high school graduate must take their next step by choosing their academic
strand. It is very important to have already a decision so that it will be easier for you to
know what your majors are. It is hard and complicated if you chose a strand just because
you have no choice that’s why you have to make decision as early as you can. In order to
become successful in life, you must have a good decision making skill.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
 What are the student’s perspective in choosing General Academic Strand?
 What are their benefits in learning General Academic Strand?
 What are the effects of their knowledge in this strand on their preparation for college?
 What are the advantage and disadvantage on studying the General Academic Strand?
 What are the difference of choosing General Academic Strand from the other strands?
ASSUMPTION
The researchers assumed that the respondents would be a reliable source of

information that would make this study a success. Also assumed that the respondents will
be honest and true in answering the questions. The researchers will deeply explain the
importance and purpose of the study to its respondents. In addition, the research is
believed to be timely and relatable to the respondents.
SCOPE AND DELIMINATION
This study covered about the perspective of the grade-11 senior high school
students on picking the general academic strand. The researchers who are currently a
General Academic Strand students conducted this study at St. Ignatius Academy Binan
Campus located at Lot 2124 E2 & E3 Brgy. Canlalay, Binan City, Laguna. The
researchers interviewed 5 grade-11 General Academic Strand students. The study was
conducted on the month of June 2022.
IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will guide grade 11 and upcoming senior high school in choosing
General Academic Strand. It determines the student’s perspective and knowledge about
GAS and other strands. This study will also help students to analyze if they pick the right
track that they chose. Our study may help to improve and develop decision making when
it comes on choosing tracks and survive the hindrances regarding with their studies. Our
study also aims to know the advantages and disadvantages of studying General Academic
Strand. And lastly, this study aims to help students on choosing tracks for their preparation
for college

 Hindrances – A person or thing that makes a situation difficult.
 Dilemma – A situation in which you have to make a difficult choice.
 Perspective – A particular attitude toward or way of regarding something.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
In this chapter, the background of the strand will be further discussed for the
deep understanding of the readers and for further information that presents
the review of related literature and studies which is relevant to the present
study.
Foreign Literature
Almost any senior high school student tends to be inclined toward his or
her convenient strand. Nevertheless, understanding stuff enticing always
seems to be entertaining. Conversely, for those who may be wholly inclined to
pursue the General Academic Strand (GAS) in senior high, here's a little
snippet according to what the most solely devoted GAS students ought to
imply of it.
People entering in GAS seem to undergo how well each sophisticated strand
would have to obtain, specifically designed for students who just aren't
convinced including one that strand to initiate. GAS seems to be prevalently as
a go strand for those who are already considering their college viable
alternatives. GAS would seem to be firm enough though to give student a

were being granted merging courses to ascertain his/her readiness for more
than just the prospective line of work.
According to Boyer (1987) , “in taking course , one of the life’s major decision

excellence of the students life’s may rest on the result. In choosing an senior
academic track, a student should take a risk. Making decision implies that
there are choices to be considered, and in such case we want only to identify as
many of these alternatives as possible but to choose the one that best fits with
our goals, objectives, desires, values and so on.
Local Literature
Understudies' vocational attitudes are shaped even by social and

environmental factors, very notably the relatives as kin, who play a significant
part in identifying the perfect quality education. Amidst hegemonic

The main factors that influence the academic qualifications or even

process.

GAS students seems find a advantages of being in this track of course there is
disadvantages too, Some of those are improving our minds and skills, which
may help people determine how each curriculum we ought to take as well as
contribute us through a fulfilling career. Preparation for successful teaching
and learning is really a major benefit; students will really be designed to deal
with more and greater tiers of skill since those who enter college. Again an
additional benefit of K-12 education has been that it prepares students to join
the workforce. Senior high school graduates could further undergo instruction
which might qualify them for available positions.
