c. Review
Who can still recall what
was our previous lesson in Science?
Our previous lesson in Science was
about photosynthesis.
Very Good! Who can tell me
what photosynthesis is all about?
Photosynthesis is a process wherein
plants manufacture there own food.

Very Good! Is photosysnthesis

important to plants?
Yes, teacher. Because without
photosynthesis plants will not be able to
make their own food and to survive.
Very Good!

B. Lesson Proper
a. Unblocking of difficult words
1. decomposed - to cause
something to be slowly
destroyed and broken down.
2. organic - derived from
decomposed plants and
animals.
3. inorganic - derived from
weathered or eroded rock
material.
4. weathering - a process
wherein rocks are broken
down into small fragments
through continuous exposure
to elements.
5. erosion - is the transfer of soil
from one place to anoher.
b. Motivation
If you want to plant a flower,
a corn, and a tree, what do they
need in order for them to grow?
Plants need sunlight.
Very Good! What else?
Plants need water.
Another idea?
Plants need soil.
Very Good! Plants need
sunlight, water, air and most of
importantly soil in order for them
to grow.

c. Presentation
Our lesson for today is about
the Importance of soil to plants.

d. Discussion
Soil is the topmost layer of The children are listening to the
the Earth's land surface. It is discussion.
composed of loose rocks and
decomposed plants and animals.

Components of Soil

1. Organic matter - is derived

from the decomposed plants,
and animals.

2. Inorganic matter - is derived

from weathered or eroded
rock material.

The loose rock material

is the product of weathering and
erosion.

Weathering - is the process

wherein rocks are broken
down into smaller fragments
through continuous exposure
to the elements.

Erosion - is the transfer of soil

from one place to another.

Soil is also composed of

decayed plants and animals. The
remains of these organisms are
rich in minerals and other
substances that makes the soil
very fertile.

Plants use the nutrients in

soil, together with sunlight and
carbon dioxide, to make their
own food. Animals rely on
plants as food source.

Fertile soil is an ideal source

of nutrients which plants need.
When the soil is rich & abundant,
plants thrive.

Fertile soil is ideal for

gardening, planting crops, farming
and grazing cattle.

e. Application
(Group Activity)

Direction: Complete the sentences behind

the pictures by supplying it with the
words that best fits to the sentences.
Choose your answers inside the box.

Sentences behind:

The 2 components
of soil are __________
and _________ matter.
The _______ soil
is an ideal source of
nutrients which plants
need for photosynthesis.
Plants use the nutrients in the soil to
make their own food.

and inorganic matter.
The fertile soil is an ideal source of
nutrients which plants need for photosynthesis.

f. Generalization
What are the 2 components
of soil?
The 2 components of soil are organic
and inorganic matter.
Very Good! What is the
importance of soil to plants?
The plants use the nutrients in the soil
to make their own food.
Very Good!

Values Infusion:
So what will you do in order
to maintain the fertility of the soil?
We must take good care to our
surroundings.
How will you show being
careful?
We must not throw our garbages
anywhere that can affect the fertility of the
soil.
Very Good!
What else?
Kaingin farming must be stopped for
it loosen up the minerals in the soil.
Very Good!
