“It may seem a strange principle to enunciate as the very first requirement in a Hospital that it should do

the sick no harm.”

Alam naman natin na si Florence Nightingale was not only the Mother of Modern Nursing; but she also
was the Mother of Healthcare Design and Patient Safety. Healthcare workers have a responsibility for
the sick and dapat maprevent yung unnecessary suffering and death. Meron tayong tinatawag na first
principle, yung nonmaleficence.. and as stated nga ditto sa quoute.. do no harm. This is directly tied to
the nurse's duty na protectahan yung patient's safety. Born out of the Hippocratic Oath, this principle
dictates that we do not cause injury to our patients.

In every healthcare setting, vices may emerge, \\especially both the stressful nature of the environment
and human nature that plays a part in this destructive conduct.

Vices comes from the Latin word vitium which means “failing or defect”.

Sa tagalog ito ay “bisyo” kaya naman vices are not to be done at dapat iwasan

In more minor usage, vice can refer to a fault, a defect, an infirmity, or merely a bad habit.

The modern English term that best captures its original meaning ay yung salitang vicious, which means
"full of vice".

Kinokonsider din nating immoral, depraved or degrading act to all the members in a society yung vices.

And if we apply it to healthcare we can define vices as the - authority and power of the HCP over
vulnerable patient or the respect he gets from society

Fraud

 someone who is not what he or she pretends to be. meaning nagkukunwari lang sya and there
is an intent para madecive yung iba, typically yung unjustifiable claiming or being credited with
accomplishments or qualities. pwede ding manloko for financial or personal gain

Next po

Ang Health-care fraud ay nangyayari kapag yung health-care professional knowingly, willfully, and
intentionally makes a false statement or claim. So this is an illegal behavior

similar to other white-collar crimes, it has three general costs:

Financial,
 First, the United States is likely the largest financial victim of healthcare fraud in the world.
 Baket???? kase the more money na inaallocate for healthcare, the more din yung opportunities

documents ng mga patients na hindi naman nila ginamot just so that insurance claims can be made. On
going pa rin po yung investigation but Without accreditation, yung hospitals will lose their income

Physical

 Second, healthcare fraud also has a physical cost, eto yung mga mali yung gamot na prinescribe,
maling lab result saka yun unnecessary procdures

Social

 A third and final cost of healthcare fraud concerns social costs. Such costs cannot be numerically
calculated. Eto yung loss of respect and trust sa medecine profession

Failure to Properly Charge Medicare and Medicaid Patients for Prescriptions

This is a violation of program rules and can often result
in a successful False Claims Act case against the pharmacy.

Pride

 Make people think highly of themselves.

 Iniisip nila na lagi silang tama and they don't want to listen to their patients or their peers'
suggestions.
 The quality of having an excessively high opinion of oneself or one's importance.
 We all know naman na delegation is important po in healthcare. Kase no man is an island and
hindi naman natin kayang gawin lahat. some examples of pride is etong senior nurse disagree
with resident doctor. So there is a form of snobbery and self glorification sa part ng doctor. Kase
nurse. Sadly in healthcare marami pa rin ang tingin sa nurse is assistant lang ng doctors.
Dinidismiss nya yung opinion ng nurse na hindi naman dapat because nurses work WITH the
doctors they font work FOR them.
Greed

– nadiscuss nanaman natin yung ibat ibagng healthcare frauds kanina for financial gain
– so sometimes because of the money physicians can cheat their patients.

Vices and poor habits stifle communication and cooperation, diminish individual contributions to care,
erode staff morale, create an uncomfortable or hostile atmosphere, drive some to leave their
profession, and ultimately hurt patients. Good habits such as neutral and unbiased culture, courteous
treatment of severe unfavorable events, and openness are all important parts of the healthcare
environment to counteract vices and bad habits.
