I. OBJECTIVES:
A. CONTENT STANDARD: Changes that materials undergo when exposed to certain conditions
B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD: Evaluate whether changes in materials are useful or harmful
to one’s environment
C. LEARNING COMPETENCY: Identify changes in materials whether useful or harmful to one’s
environment.
D. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
1. Identify changes in the materials that are useful and harmful to the environment;
2. Describe the harmful effects of the changes in the materials to the environment; and
3. Explain some ways of preventing/minimizing the harmful effects of the materials.
II. CONTENT:
A. TOPIC: Science Quarter 1 – Module 4:
B. REFERENCES: ADM Module in Science 4 pp.18-33
C. MATERIALS: PowerPoint presentation, Laptop, TV
D. Values Integration:
Observe safety measures in handling/keeping and using solid materials
III. PROCEDURE:
1. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY:
ENERGIZER: Singing of “Recycling Song”
2. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
REVIEW:
What are the Harmful Effects of the Changes in the Materials to the Environment?
3. MOTIVATION:
Ask: Identify the situation/actions showing materials that undergo changes.
Identify which changes materials that show useful and harmful to one’s environment.
1. Have the pupils formulate generalization by asking, What are the harmful effects of the Changes in
the Materials to
the Environment?
2. Let each group representative present the output.
3. Go over the groups responses and synthesize ideas/concepts.
4. Give additional information/input to the pupils about the 5R’s of Responsible Waste Management
enumerated below.
5. Let the pupils realize that to help preserve and conserve the environment, various environment
practices such as the 5R’s waste segregation, clean-up drives, tree planting and other environmental-
related activities should be done.
6. Let the pupils apply their understanding or show what they can do to help prevent/minimize the
harmful effects of the changes in the materials to the environment by doing the assigned tasks to the
followings:
1 – Jingle Group 3 – Song Group 5 – Poster
Group 2 – Poem Group 4 – Slogan
7. Clarify misconceptions when needed.
Let the student present the activity done yesterday and answer the following questions given.
5. ANALYSIS:
Take note of the pupils’ responses to the activity questions.
a. What are the changes in the materials that are useful to the environment?
What made them useful to the environment?
b. What are the changes in the materials that are harmful to environment? What made them harmful
to the environment?
6.APPLICATION:
a. It affects the quality of the air that we breathe. It causes rapid change in temperature.
b. Polluted land serves as breeding places for flies, cockroaches, rats which carry germs that
cause diseases.
c. The smoke and toxins from the household garbage that enter the air also contribute to the
greenhouse effect and global warming.
d. When the surrounding air is blanketed with smoke from factories and motorized vehicles,
the air becomes polluted and can cause skin itchiness, lung infections, cancer, and other
respiratory diseases.
e. The river becomes polluted and can cause diseases to fish, water plants and even
humans.
