I have here numbers showing like and

unlike signs for you to add/subtract.
All you have to do is to give directly the
answers. Everybody should participate. Yes Miss.
Understood class? Yes Miss.
Are you ready?
Here’s my challenge!
5 + (-3) = 2
5 + (-3) (-10) + (-5) = -15
(-10) + (-5) 9 + (-6) = 3
9 + (-6) 12 + (-6) = 6
12 + (-6) 2 + (-2) = 0
2 + (-2) (-9) + 5 = -4
(-9) + 5 (-7) + 2 = -5
(-7) + 2 (-4) + (-2) = -6
4 + (-2)
3) Review
Very good class!You did it perfectly!

I have here four different equations. All

you have to do is to complete the table.
You need to find the values of y given
the values of x. Write your answers on
the illustration board. Every member of
the group must cooperate. I’ll give 5
points for those group who will finish
first and I’ll give you 3 minutes to
answer the problems. I will deduct 5
points for those group who are noisy. Yes Miss.

All of you got the correct answer but the

first group to finish is the Group _____.
4) Motivation Let’s give a “WOW CLAP” for the
Group___ for winning the game.

Students are watching.

(Watch video on Peppa Pig riding his
bicycles)

Our friend Baby Jorge is riding his bike.

He goes up two different hills. Which hill
will be harder for Baby Jorge to pedal
up? In hill no.2, Baby Jorge will have the
harder to pedal up.

In hill no. 4, Baby Jorge will gain more

speed
in going down the hill.

Later on, Baby Jorge is going down two

hills?. Which hill will he gain more speed

Summary:

Discussion

The measure of how hard it is for Baby

Jorge to pedal up the hill, or how much
speed he gains down hill is known as
SLOPE.
In Math, the steepness or inclination of
the ladder represents the slope of a line.

So, this morning we will discuss about

the slope of a line.

Definition:
SLOPE OF A LINE determine the
steepness or inclination of the line with
the ratio:
Slope = rise/ run

Y2 - Y1
m=
X2 - X1

Where x2 ≠ x1
Remember, if the slope of a line is
positive, the graph rises from left to
right.

UPHILL
If the slope is negative, the graph of the
line slants downward. Let’s have this
example.

DOWNHILL

If the slope is zero

If slope is undefined
In physics, we can relate slope ofa line in Kinetic and Potential Energy.

See the illustration below:

“TRY AND TRY UNTIL YOU SUCCEED”

Here are some real world examples of slope:

To find the slope given the two points is to

use the formula:
Y2 - Y1
m=
X2 - X1

Y2 = 5 X2 = 3
Y1 = 2 X1 = 1
Y2 = 2 X2 = 6
Y1 = 4 X1 = 3

Y2 = 6 X2 = 5
Y1 = 3 X1 = 1

Y2 - Y1 6-3 3
m= = =
X2 - X1 5-1 4

How do you find the slope given the two

points?

Very good!
Example 1:
Determine the slope of a line that
passes through the points (1,2) and
(3,5).

Y2 - Y1 5-2 3
m= = =
X2 - X1 3-1 2

Remember, if the slope of a line is

positive, the graph rises from left to
right.

If the slope is negative, the graph of the

line slants downward. Let’s have this
example.

Example 2: (3, 4) and (6, 2)

Y2 - Y1 2-4 -2
m= = =
X2 - X1 6-3 3

Let’s try this to solve:

*Solve the slope of a line given the two
points ( 1,3) and (5,6).

Application Group Activity: Solve me!

Group yourselves into 4 groups. Select a
leader, secretary and 2 reporters. All you
have to do is to solve the slope of a line.
The first group to solve in their
illustration board will gain 5 points if and
only if their answers are correct. Every
member of the group will cooperate and
do your work silently or else deduction
of points.

Y2 - Y1 3-2 1
Solve the slope of a m= = =
line X2 - X1 4-1 3
given the two points
( 1,2) and (4,3).

Y2 - Y1 2-5 -3
m= = =
Solve the slope of a
X2 - X1 6-4 2
line
given the two points
( 4,5) and (6,2).

Solve the slope of a

line Y2 - Y1 4 - (-1) 5
given the two points m= = =
( -1,-1) and (3, 4). X2 - X1 3 - (-1) 4

Y2 - Y1 2 - (- 3) 5
m= = =
X2 - X1 4-2 2
Solve the slope
of a line given the
two points
( 2,-3) and (4,2).

Values Is it important to have a group activity? Yes Maam because through group activity
Integration Why? we can share and learn new ideas from
others.
Very good!

What strategies/techniques did you We employ the value of teamwork and

employ with your group inorder to finish cooperation.
your task/activity successfully?

Very good!
It’s very important to cooperate
especially in our household chores in our
home and also our responsibility in the
classroom everyday.

Generalization Class, what have you learned and We have learned that slope of a line refers to the
understood in our discussion today? steepness or inclination of the line.

Very good!
How to solve slope of a line given the two
Using the formula
points? Y2 - Y 1
m=
Precisely! X2 - X 1

What is the graph if the slope is positive? The graph slants upward from left to right.
Very good.
If the slope is negative?
Very good. The graph slants downward.
If we relate that positive and negative in
our life, that is success and failure. We
need to stay positive and don’t let failure
block in achieving our dreams in life.

Evaluation Get 1/4 sheet of paper.

Directions: Solve the slope of a line that
passes through the given points.

1. ( 1, -2 ) and ( 5, 3 ) Y2 - Y1 3 - (-2) 5
m= = =
X2 - X1 5-1 4

2. ( 1, 1 ) and ( 3, 0 ) Y2 - Y1 0-1 -1
m= = =
X2 - X1 3-1 2
