Do all of you got the correct answers? Yes ma’am.

Okay later we will see.

So now let us move on.

3. Review
Based on your assignments, as a review, what
topic we have discussed yesterday? Ma’am yesterday we discuss about distance
and distance formula.

Very good! Thank you!

Yesterday we discussed about Distance and The

distance formula.

Again, what is Distance? Distance is the space between two objects,

person and points.
Very good!

Distance is the space between two objects,

person and points.

Yesterday we derive a formula from Pythagorean

theorem, and this is the formula in getting the
distance between two pints, what formula is this? √ 2
d= ( x 2−x 1 ) + ( y 2− y1 )
2

Nice! The formula in getting the distance of two

point is

√ 2
d= ( x 2−x 1 ) + ( y 2− y1 )
2

In getting the distance of two points, We need to

use the given coordinates or the given points by
substituting it to our formula in x 1, x 2, y 1, and y 2
Yes ma’am.
Did you understand?

Do you have any question or clarification about None ma’am.

our previous discussion?

Thank you for sharing your learnings to us.

Yes Ma’am.
I hope that everybody learned a lot from our past
discussion.

This time, we will proceed now to our next

lesson.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson.
And to find out what is our next discussion, I
prepare a game that will help us to know the next
topic that we are going to study.

This game is called “Plot me to Show me”

This game is a plotting game. So as you already

knew how to plot a point on a Cartesian plane,
we will use it to know what is our discussion
would be.

And the mechanics of this game are as follows,

you will play as a group, the 8 groupings we
have made before. Each group will be given an
envelope wherein inside it, you will be given a
same set of coordinates where in you will plot it
to a graphing paper that you will get also inside
the envelope. And after, you will connect each
point; there is a hidden word that will be
revealed. After you get the word your leader will
go here in front to press our buzzer and he/she
will shout the revealed word. First team who will
answer correctly will get a special prize from me. Yes ma’am

Class did you understand?

Okay ma’am.
If you don’t have question. Here is your
envelope. Do not open it until I said Go. Yes ma’am

Each group are you ready? (the student will start plotting)

Okay, if you are ready, your timer starts now!

(1 leader of the group will go in front to
press the Buzzer)
(after a while)
(Buzzer will rang)

Ma’am it is MIDPOINT.
Group ____, what is the word you have
revealed?

Okay Midpoint is Correct!

(the student will give it to the teacher)
Congratulations group ____. You got the correct
word. Let me have the graphing paper.

Okay class, look at this, and the word they have

revealed is MIDPOINT.

(the teacher will show it to the student)

So our Topic for today is all about Midpoint and

Thank you ma’am.
Midpoint Formula.
Thank you ma’am.
Group leader. Please get the prize of your group.
And to the other groups, don’t worry I also have
something for all of you. (the student will be ready)
Now please arrange the chairs and be ready for
our discussion.
C. Presenting examples/ instances of the
new lesson.
Today, we will discuss about Midpoint Formula.

To start our discussion, I have here a video

about Midpoint, on what is Midpoint, and on
how we can get the Midpoint or what is the
formula we are going to use. Please watch and
listen carefully and after it I will ask a question
regarding to it and after, we will have our
example.

(the teacher play the video)

(the student are watching silently)

(after the video finished)

D. Discussing new concept and practicing

new skills #1
Based on the video you have watched, what is Midpoint is a point somewhere in between.
Midpoint?

Very well answer!

Based on our video, Midpoint is a point

somewhere in between.

Or simply, midpoint is the center or halfway of 2

aligned points.

(show the presentation per slide)

Based on the video, midpoints describes as a

point or object in between the two other objects
or places or person.

In our example

Point A and point B has a Pear as their midpoint.

Another example,

In our example the dog and the cat agreed to

meet halfway, so the red dot will be the
midpoint.

Another example,

The midpoint is in the number 3.

What is the midpoint on our ruler?

Very good! Yes ma’am.
The midpoint on our ruler will lie on number 3.

Class did you understand Midpoint?

Okay, that is midpoint we encounter in our

everyday lives, but on geometry midpoint is The midpoint is the middle point of a line
defined as? segment. It is equidistant from both
endpoints.
In our video, midpoint in geometry is?

Very good!

In geometry, midpoint is the middle point of a

line segment. And this midpoint is equidistant
from both endpoints.

Example of this is

This shows an equal distance line made by the

midpoint.

Another example,

This picture shows the endpoints and the

midpoint, and the spaces between each other are
equal.

Another example. The midpoint on the example is in point B.

Yes ma’am.
In our example, what will be our midpoint?

Very good!

Class did you understand?

This time we are going to focus on Midpoint in

Geometry in which we will be looking for the
midpoint of the two points plotted on the
Cartesian plane.

On yesterday’s discussion we are getting the

distance of the two points using the Distance
formula, but now we will be getting the point Midpoint formula is
that is in the middle of the two endpoints using
of what we called the Midpoint Formula.

Okay back on the video you have watched, what

( x 1+ x 2 y 1+ y 2
2
,
2
¿ )
is the formula in getting the coordinates of the
Midpoint of a line?

Okay Very Good!

The Midpoint Formula is

( x 1+ x 2 y 1+ y 2
2
,
2 )
where in
x1 + x 2
2

is the formula in getting the x- intercept

and

y 1+ y2
2

is the formula in getting the y- intercept.

We can identify the x 1, x 2, y 1 and y 2 points from

the given coordinates as endpoints.

In this topic we need to get the coordinates of the

midpoint or the (x, y) of the given center point.
In distance formula we only need to get the
distance of the two points.

So here it is

We have a given 2 coordinates that will serve as

our endpoints and for our center point the
formula in getting the midpoint.

To make it clear to us, let us have an example.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills #2.
The coordinates of the endpoints of L (-3, -2) and
G (8, 9) respectively. What are the coordinates of
its midpoint? (on page 238)
First step to do is to plot all the given points.

Very Good!

Now let us connect the two points.

Now that we connected the two points let us

proceed in getting its midpoint.

In getting its midpoint, substitute our given

coordinates to our formula.

L (-3, -2) G (8, 9)

x 1=−3
x 2=8
y 1=−2
y 2=9

Substitute these values in to our formula.

M= ( x +2 x , y +2 y )
1 2 1 2

M= ( −3+8
2
,
2 )
−2+9

The midpoint of line LG have a coordinate of

M= ( 52 , 72 )
And now we can plot it to our Cartesian plane.
For us to easily to plot coordinates in fraction,
we need to convert it to decimal.
5
=2.5
2

7
=3.5
2

( 52 , 72 )
Yes ma’am.

Did you understand?

F. Developing Mastery

Okay, for more understanding let us have another

example which on page 236 of your Learner’s
Module. That example is from our Distance
Formula but now we need to get the Midpoint of
that example.

Determine the midpoint of the line AB where in

A coordinates is (1, 6) and B is (5, -2).

M= ( x +2 x , y +2 y )
1 2 1 2

M= ( 1+52 , 6+(−2)
2 )
M= ( 62 , 4 ¿¿¿ 2)
M =( 3 , 2 )

(3 , 2)

Very Good!

Now that we already know how to get a midpoint

of two points. Let us now apply it to the real
world.
F. Finding Practical Applications of
Concepts and Skills in daily living

Midpoint formula has many applications in real

life. In particular, it can be used to find the
midpoint between two person, objects or places.

To make it clear let us have a demonstration.

Everybody please move your chair to the center (the student will follow)
and compress.

(show on the class seat plan on the slide

presentation)

Okay now for our application, let this row

(shows the row) is our x-axis and this column
(show the column) is our y- axis. Each student is
counted as one. Assume that Mickee is on the
coordinates (0,0) or he/ she is on the origin and
Jochelle is on the coordinate ( 6,6 ). What we
need to do is to find the person and the
coordinates that is halfway to them. To find out
let us use our Midpoint Formula.

Please try it on the board.

M= ( x +2 x , y +2 y )
1 2 1 2

Now let us substitute our given coordinates

M= ( 0+62 , 0+62 )
M= ( 62 , 62 )
M =( 3 , 3 )
So our midpoint between the 2 was lie on the
coordinates (3, 3) and the person who sits on this
coordinate is Mary Nicole.

Did you understand class? Yes ma’am.

And for more example in real life. Let us answer
this.

A study shed will be constructed midway

between two school buildings. On a school map
drawn on a coordinate plane, the coordinates of
the first building are (10, 30) and the coordinates
of the second building are (170, 110). What are
the coordinates of the point where the study shed
will be constructed? (on page 246)

Let us show first the draft or sketch of the given.

(170, 110)

(10, 30)
Coordinates =?
Now let us substitute the
given in our formula and let us solve. M= ( 10+2170 , 30+2110 )
M= ( 1802 , 1402 )
M =( 90 , 70 )
Very good!

The coordinates of the shed that will build

between the two building is
M =( 90 , 70 )

Did you understand? Yes ma’am.

Okay, again class, midpoint formula in real life is

used to determine the midpoint of an object,
person or places.

Do you have any question regarding our

None ma’am.
discussion?
G. Making generalizations and abstractions
about the lesson.
If you don’t have any question, I have a question
for all of you.

Based on our discussion, what is midpoint? Midpoint is a point somewhere in between of

two person, objects or places.
Very good!

How about, what is the formula in getting the

midpoint of two points plotted in the
Cartesian plane? M= ( x +2 x , y +2 y )
1 2 1 2

Precisely! Very good!

Now for my last question what do you think is

the values we can get from our discussion
for today? Ma’am I think _______________.

Very good answer. Thank you!

Class remember that “life is too short to live”.

We may encounter different problems in life but
in the middle of our trials, we can think of
different ways to solve it. Just like in our
discussion, midpoint formula serves as a tool to
solve our own problem. In the middle of your
problem, you can formulate different ways to
solve it. Remember that again, “think before you
act."

Now, to assess the learning you have gain let us

have a short quiz.
H. Evaluating Learning
For your quiz, get 1 whole sheet of paper and
answer the following. You have 10 minutes to (the student get 1 whole sheet of paper)
answer.

A. Find the midpoint of the following points in a Cartesian plane.

a. A(6, 8) and B(12,10)

b. C(5,11) and D(9,5)
c. K(-3, 2) and L(11,6)
d. R(-2,8) and S(10, -6)
e. P(-5, -1) and Q(8, 6)

B. Find the midpoint between two person, places or things.

a. Michael and Sarah live in separate cities and one day they decided to meet up for lunch.
Because they both wanted to travel as little as possible they decided to meet at a point
halfway between their homes. If Michael’s position can be given by (3100, 500) and
Sarah's position by (5120, 125), which of the following coordinates represents the place
they should meet?

After 10 minutes, Are you all done class? Yes ma’am.

Okay, please pass the paper forward in the (the student will pass the paper)
count of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Are all the papers are here? Yes ma’am.
I. Additional Activities for application or
remediation.

Okay, now please get your notebook and please

write your assignments.
(the student will follow)
Answer the following.
1. The diagram below shows the
coordinates of the location of the
houses of Luisa and Grace. Both of
them agreed that they will meet
halfway. Find the coordinates, where
Luisa and Grace will see each other.
Find the distance between the
coordinates of halfway and Luisa’s
House.

Yes ma’am.
Did you understand class?
None ma’am.
Do you have any question regarding your
assignment? Yes ma’am.
Did you enjoy our class? Yes ma’am.
Let us call it a fun and knowledgeable day!
I hope you learned a lot.
