Teacher’s Activities Students’ Expected
Activities
A. Preparatory Activities `
1. Collecting and Checking of Assignment
Class, kindly get your assignment and pass.
Let us check your assignment.

Don’t forget to write corrected by and your Yes sir!

name on the paper you check.

Are you ready? Yes sir…

Are all done checking the assignment? Yes sir…

Now, pass your assignment forward without

talking and standing.

2. Review
Based on your assignment, what do you think Our last topic last meeting was
was our topic last meeting? all about midpoint formula.
Very good!

3. Motivation
This morning class, we are going to tackle a Yes sir!
new topic. But, before that let me ask you Yes sir…
first.
Class, have you seen a ferris wheel? Circle sir!
How about a bicycle wheels?

Okay then, what figure or shape comes in your

mind when we talk about ferris wheel or
bicycle wheels

Okay, very good!

Aside from ferris wheel or bicycle wheels

there are many examples of circles around us.
Even here inside this classroom we can find
circle objects. Just like your wall clock, Yes sir!
buttons of your shirts and etc.

In your previous lesson. We know that a circle

has a fixed point and a radius, right?

Look at this picture class, this is a ferris

wheel.

We can locate the fixed point

at the center of a circle.

Through this picture where can we locate the

fixed point?

Good!

In other words fixed point is also called the center

of the circle.
No sir…
And the two bars here represent radii.

Now class, given the center and the radius do you

have an idea how to find the equation of a circle
or this ferris wheel?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation of the Topic
Since you do not have an idea in finding the
equation of a circle that will be our topic for
this morning. But before that, we will define
first circle.

2. Unlocking of Difficulties
Circle – is a set of all points in a plane
equidistant from a fixed point.

3. Discussion Proper

Equations of a Circle

a. Center of a circle is at point (h,k).

Equation: ( x−h )2+ ( y −k )2=r 2

b. Center of a circle is at the origin (0,0).

Equation: x 2+ y 2=r 2

Solution:
Examples: ( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
( x +5)2+( y−3)2=3 2
1. Find the equation of a circle whose center ( x +5)2+( y−3)2=9
is at (-5,3) and whose radius is 3 units The equation of a circle with
long. center at (-5,3) and a radius of
3 units is ( x +5)2+( y−3)2=9.
Solution:
( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
( x−0)2 +( y−0)2=22
x 2+ y 2=4
2. Find the equation of a circle whose center The equation of a circle is
is at the origin and whose radius is 2.
x 2+ y 2=4 .

Solution:
C(h,k)
( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
3. Determine the center and radius of the ( x−0)2 +¿ ¿
circle whose equation is x 2+ y 2=16.
C(0,0); r = 4

None sir!
4. Generalization
Class, do you have any questions or
clarifications regarding to our topic today?

Since you don’t have any questions, let me be

the one to ask you. Yes sir!

Is circle can be used in real-life? We can use circle in real life

in so many ways. Like tire it
Yes of course, but the question is how are needs to be circle for the
circles used in real life? bicycle can move many times.

5. Application
At this moment, let me test you if you really
understand my discussion.

Instruction: On your scratch paper, write the

equation of the circle whose center and radius
are given.

I want three volunteers to solve the problem Ye sir!

on the board and explain it to your classmates.
Do you understand? Solution:
( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
1. C(0,0); r = 8 x 2+ y 2=82
x 2+ y 2=64
Therefore, the equation of the
circle is x 2+ y 2=64 .
Solution:
( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
( x−3)2 +( y −2)2 =4 2
2. C(3,2); r = 4 ( x−3)2 +( y −2)2 =16
Therefore, the equation of the
circle is ( x−3)2 +( y −2)2 =16.

Solution:
C(h,k)
( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
3. Determine the center and radius of the ( x +4 )2 +( y−4)2=52
circle whose equation is
( x−4)2+( y + 4)2=25. C(4,-4); r = 5

Very good! Class, give 3 claps to your

classmates.

V. Evaluation:
1
Instruction: Solve the following problems in crosswise.
2
A. Write the equation of the circle whose center and radius are given.
1. C(-1,2); r = 6
Solution:
( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
( x +1)2 +( y−2)2=62
( x +1)2 +( y−2)2=36
Therefore, the equation of the circle is ( x +1)2 +( y−2)2=36.

2. C(-4,-7); r = 5
Solution:
( x−h)2 +( y−k )2=r 2
( x +4 )2 +( y +7)2=52
( x +4 )2 +( y +7)2=25
Therefore, the equation of the circle is ( x +4 )2 +( y +7)2=25.

VI. Assignment:
1
Instruction: Solve the following problems in a crosswise.
2
A. Write the equation of the circle whose center and radius are given.
1. C(-3,2); r = √ 5
2. C(5,1); r = 9
B. Determine the center and radius of each circle whose equation is given below.
1. x 2+ y 2=121
2. ( x +4 )2+( y−5)2=36
