INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Cockfighting, locally termed as sabong, is a sport considered as a very

important culture the people of the Philippines. Cock fighting is not a new-

fangled animal sport in the country. It has been a part of the lives of many

Filipinos since Magellan’s conquer in our land in 1521 (Almedral, 2013). It has

been depicted as a “national pastime” in the archipelago. Tens of thousands

of legal and unregistered cockpits are scattered throughout the islands. The

culture around it is profoundly deep-rooted in Philippine living, predominantly

in provinces, where cockfighting is part of the daily clutch for income and

possessions. Cock fighters/breeders have different intentions and reasons

why they engage to such bloody sport. For some, their family and those

agribusiness as well. Due to the demand of customers, many agribusinesses

were introduced in the market by different suppliers and manufacturers, and

one of them is the products and services offered by Agrivet supply business.

Retailing Cockfighting Agrivet Supply is a business intended to produce

Agricultural and pet services to their customers. It is a business dedicated in

providing professional service, high and good quality of feeds, vitamins, and

medicine for pets particularly for cockfighting breeds. The business expands

its operation by establishing branch in different part of South Cotabato.

The researchers decided to create a study in establishing a Retailing

Cockfighting Agrivet Supply in Brgy. Lamian, Surallah South Cotabato mainly

focused on providing nutritional feeds and supply for cockfighting breeds.

Rationale of the Study

The purpose of this study is to establish Cockfighting Agrivet Supply in

Lamian, one of the most extensive barangay in Surallah, South Cotabato

because of the cockfighting feeds shortage in every purok. Based on

references, the demand of cockfighting supply in Barangay Lamian is

increasing every year, there is no business that can satisfy the demand of the

product. . The researcher choose to establish the business in Brgy. Lamian

because there is shortage in cockfighting supply specifically in the food of

cockfighting breeds. The business will serve as a retailer for cock breeders.

The researchers can also cater other Barangays near Lamian, Surallah South

Cotabato. Furthermore, the Cockfighting Agrivet Supply helps the society

through providing job opportunities and quality products, the people are able

to gain benefits.

Objective of the Study

The study aims to determine the viability of establishing a Cockfighting

Retailing Agrivet Supply in Barangay Lamian, Surallah South Cotabato.

Specifically, it aimed to establish a large and complete supply of

Cockfighting feeds in the area.

Scope and Limitations

The study is designed to determine the feasibility of Cockfighting

Retailing Agrivet Supply. The product that will be selling is Thunder Bird

Feeds and supply. The main product of Retailing Cockfighting Agrivet Supply

is Feeds. The researchers is focus on feeds specifically in retailing

Thunderbird Platinum, thunderbird stag developer crumble, thunderbird chick

booster, thunderbird hen and thunderbird baby stag. In retailing supply for

cockfighting breeds, the researchers product is limited only to string-short,

gloves, clay pot, square pin-small and square pin-big.

The scope of the study is limited to Brgy. Lamian, Surallah, South

Cotabato. The researcher will select all the Purok in Barangay Lamian in

conducting the survey. The participants are the selected breeder and

cockfighters within Lamian, Surallah who raise and maintain the performance

of their cockfighting pet.

Research Methodology

This section presents the research design, research locale,

respondents, sampling design, research instruments to be used, data

gathering procedure, and definition of terms relevant to the study.

Research Design

The study used descriptive research and key informant interviewed is

conducted. The primary source of data are those breeders or derby cock

raiser in Lamian, Surallah South Cotabato were survey as part of data

gathering. Moreover, the researcher used also secondary data such as online

materials, books, journals and etc. The study is a quantitative type of

research.

Locale of the Study

The locale of this study is in Surallah, South Cotabato which is limited

only to one Barangay particularly in Lamian. It is 17 kilometers away from

Poblacion of Surallah. It has five (5) Agribusiness supplies located in the main

map of Brgy. Lamian and the participants mainly come from nearby puroks

and sitios of the said barangay.

Respondents

The respondents of this study are the Cockfighter owner’s or breeders

in seven puroks of Brgy. Lamian, Surallah South Cotabato, namely Sitio San

Isidro, Purok Mainuswagon, Purok Emfaville, Purok Sampaguita, Purok

Waling-waling, Purok Santan, and Purok Bougainvillea. The total respondents

of Retailing of Cockfighting Agrivet Supply is 130 cocks breeders. The

researchers will be using simple random sampling as a sampling technique.

The population has an equal chance of being included as a sample.

The researchers prepared a semi-structured questionnaire to be used

in collecting necessary information for the study which covers the four phases

of feasibility study like the organizational, technical, marketing and financial.

Then, the researchers gave the said questionnaire to the respondents and

assisted them in answering the questions. After the respondents finished

answering, the questionnaires were then collected for data gathering and for

tabulation.

The researchers also formulated an interview guide questions and

conduct an interview for further information that can be added to support the

study and had the necessary data recorded in written.

Significance of the Study

This study is performed to present relevant information about the

feasibility of the Retailing Cockfighting Agrivet Supply. The researchers

believe that this study will be deemed beneficial to the following group of

people:

Future Researchers - The findings of this study will assist future

researchers in readily locating relevant material for their research, as well as

in identifying appropriate respondents for completing their research or study.

Customers. The findings of this study would be able to help the

customers gain an understanding on producing feeds and supply on the

market and the benefits of purchasing the products produced.

a. Marketing

The researchers discovered that there are 5 existing business that sells

feeds but there is no business that focuses on cock fighting breeds supplies.

This is very in demand in barangay Lamian since most of the people in

Lamian are raising cockfighting breed. The pricing scheme of the business will

be based on current price that corresponds proportionally to the given

products; the bracketing price was also based in market. The business will

distribute flyers, posting on facebook and put signages along the highway to

be able to know its existence and to market the business.

b. Organizational

The form of the business is sole proprietorship which has a simple

organizational structure. The business will have at least three regular workers

composed by the Cahier/Bookkeeper and two labors. The proponent

recommends that the employee/ worker will have benefits mandated by the

Labor code of the government. Moreover, it is also recommended that they

will have to attend training programs conducted by the government

The researchers conclude that the operational or technical aspect of the cock

has a return on investment. The business has a 12 month payback period

which is a good indication that a business is efficient, and has a possibility of
