I. Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, the students are expected to:
 Appreciate children’s literature;
 Identify literary elements of The Giving Tree; and
 Share generalizations about the story

B. Motivation
Title: Complete Me!
Allotted Time: 10 minutes
Directions:
a. Each group will select a leader and a secretary.
b. Using the diagram, label the parts of an apple tree by choosing words from the
word bank below.
c. After that, each group must select a representative to share their output to the
class.

Process Questions:
1. How did you accomplish the activity?
2. Did you encounter difficulties in labeling the parts?
3. Which parts of the apple tree can we get benefits?

3. Showcase understanding of the material viewed.

Directions:
a. After viewing the video, each group will be given a cartolina, pentel pen marker
and other art materials and must identify the elements of the story through a story
map.
b. A representative will explain their organizer.

Expected Outcomes:
The learners will be able to identify correctly the elements conveyed in the Giving
Tree through a story map.

Their output will be graded based on a given criteria.

all the materials and is just left with the
stump.

Resolution is when the boy sits on the

they are together they are both happy
because they have each other.

Theme

The theme is the central idea or belief of a The book addresses issues of friendship,
story sacrifice, and happiness. It tackles pure love
which drives the sacrifices and the generosity
of the tree. The tree gives all that it can give
selflessly. It gives till there is no more to give.

Directions:
1. On your group, showcase your understanding of the story through a role play.
Each member should have corresponding role. The performance must be a
minimum of 5 minutes and not beyond 8 minutes.

IV. Assessment
Directions: Work with a pair and answer the following questions based from the
story.

Based from the story, share your insights about the following questions.

1. Do you the boy is selfish? Why or why not?


2. Do you think the boy loved the tree?
3. If you were the tree would you do the same?
4. When you give something to someone, do you expect something in return?
5. What are your generalizations about the story?

V. Assignment
Ask your elder family members for their perception regarding giving, nature of love
and happiness. You may paraphrase their answers and share it to the class next
meeting.

The overall allotted time frame for this lesson is 1 hour.
