The research that I read has a title of “The Effects of Stress

on Cognitive Aging, Physiology and Emotion (ESCAPE) Project”
The main point of the research is they want to evaluate the
psychological and physiological mediators of the relationship
between stressful experiences and cognitive function. Over the
short-term, they hypothesize that engaging in URT will deplete
attentional resources and result in worse cognitive performance in
daily life. Over the long-term, they expect that the effects of chronic
stress, from repeated exposure to stressors and regular
engagement in URT, will be apparent in dysregulated
hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis function and
inflammation. Over time, stress-related physiological dysregulation
will result in accelerated cognitive decline.
The researchers used a prospective longitudinal
measurement-burst strategy in their research. Residents of the
Bronx, New York, were recruited in a systematic random sample of
people aged 25 to 65. Consenting participants complete a baseline
evaluation as well as follow-up waves nine, eighteen, and twenty-
seven months after the baseline. Participants complete a 14-day
measuring burst of brief questionnaires and cognitive assessments
sent via research cellphones during everyday life at the end of each
wave.

Questions:

1. How does stress affect one's physical, cognitive, and

emotional aspect?
- Physically, stress can affect feeling in the head, stomachache, and
energy levels. Possibly leading to headaches and fatigue.
- Cognitively or mentally, stress can lead to social withdrawal, difficulty
in forming thoughts, and forgetfulness.
- Emotionally, stress can lead to feelings or irritability, anger, sadness,
a lack of motivation, and anxiety.

2. How can one maintain a positive disposition in life despite

challenges?
- Look at the positives of the situation, although you may have faced
a setback in life, you have learned a lot because of it. Whether that
is coming to terms with your new challenges, recognizing the true
friends in your life or how to rely on them, good can come from any
aspect of any challenge.

3. What could be your best coping advice to a teenager who is

under stress?
- The best advice to give a teenager is that despite life’s many flaws,
there is going to be good, but you must look for it, every challenge
in life has a lesson at the end. In addition, I would emphasize the
importance of never giving up because one can never know what
tomorrow might bring.
