AIMING CIRCLE

TEACHING NOTICE

1. Definition: This is the most common instrument of carrying out various operations
in the battery and in the regiments.
a. Uses;
(1) Measuring magnetic bearings.
(2) Orient guns and send guns to the main direction.
(3) Measuring horizontal and vertical angles.
(4) Measuring distance using a two meter lath.
(5) Observation of friendly spell bursts.
(6) Measuring deflection angles.
(7) Observation of the battle field and enemy position

b. The aiming circle set includes the following;


(1) Aiming circle body
(2) Tripods
(3) Accessories

c. The aiming circle body consist of the following:


(1) Single eye telescope.
(2) Traversing mechanism
(3) Elevating mechanism
(4) The ball journal
(5) Orienting mechanism

c. Single eye telescope:


This consists of;
(1) Focusing sleeve
(2) Drier for drying moisture
(3) Protective glass
(4) Light window
(5) Objective lense
(6) Reticles, small lines are found in the objective.

d. Traversing mechanism
(1) Traversing knob
(2) Traversing throw –out-lever
(3) Azimuth coarse scale (0-00-60-00) red scale.
(4) Traversing warm gear
(5) Azimuth scale coarse retainer.

e. Elevating mechanism
(1) Elevating knob.
(2) Angle of sight coarse scale (0-00 ± 3-00)
(3) Angle of sight micrometer scale (0-00-1-00)

f. Orienting mechanism
(1) Orienting knob
