DANCEVERVE 22
A. OVERVIEW
Step up and shine in DanceVerve 22! Ethnic meets modern and pop in this digital platform
that features a dazzling spectrum of dynamic dances from multiple genres. DanceVerve 22 is
part of SYFgoesOnline!, an online arts festival, and it is open to students from MOE Primary
and Secondary schools, Junior Colleges, Millennia Institute and Special Education schools.
Students are invited to showcase their dance talent in (i) My Screendance! or (ii) The Ultimate
DV Dance Challenge.
(i) My Screendance
In this new platform for 2022, students are invited to create a dance film (also known as
screendance) based on any dance genre. In screendance, dance and choreography are
created for filming purpose. See one example: Dance Film example. Screendance uses
filming and editing techniques to create plot twists, layers of reality and emotional depth.
Additionally, it usually has a central theme that is connected to a narrative or story, states of
being, or more experimental and formal concerns. The interdisciplinary mix of dance, film,
music and even digital or animation effects allows students to create a distinctive, hybrid form
of performance art.
Students are invited to submit solo or team videos featuring choreography in any of the
categories below:
Creative Cultural Cool Traditional or contemporary Chinese, Indian and Malay dance
UrbanContempDelight Contemporary dance, ballet, tap dance, jazz dance, ballroom and so on
Bring on da Funk! Hip hop, K-pop, Urban, Locking-popping and all Streetdance

• Each student may submit up to 2 films.

film and edit their work using their mobile phones, or other equipment if available, and then
edit on their laptop, using specific software.

submissions are shortlisted based on:
• Creativity
• Dance/movement concept and execution
• Theme, concept and composition

4. Understanding the language of screen-based work takes skill, and to do so, students will
need an understanding of movement, framing, editing and choice of music (if students are
not making a silent dance film) To equip students with basic skills to make a dance film,
please sign up for an exciting online My Screendance Workshop:
5. This workshop is open to all students in Dance CCA, audio-visual or media-related CCA,
as well as any student with an interest in making a film involving dance.
