Para sa Bayan

Para sa Bayan!, Para sa Bayan! Are the words I heard as I watch the news on the
television, when UP students are going for a rally, for a long time I did not get what it
meant or what does it, even signify. But all I know that time was, that has been my
turning point to pursue something that will benefit my country and my countrymen,
Philippines is like a chaotic canvas and us who would pursue Social Science are the
artist who has the ability to fix and make it unite in peace. Humanity is part of our
demographic that was embossed to our heart when we fell in-love on helping and caring
for other people. There we’re phase of my life where I doubted the career I want to
pursue, the judgement from other people who does not completely understand the
values of it. But I always tell myself that “It’s not about the value of a penny, but the
value of work and ability”. Self reflecting to it’s discipline expands my horizons of what
and who I wanted to be in the future and how can I contribute my career thru the
advancement and innovation of the modern Philippines. As a future Journalist the help I
want to give on my people is the freedom of access to information, transparency and
honesty of the future governing state, we all deserve the truth and nothing but the truth.
But deep down I also want to contribute and be an educator to the future journalist of
the country, teaching them the core competencies of telling story and inspiring other
people. My 16 year old naïve self knew that he’ll be on the field for the rest of his life just
like how he pictured it to be, be on adventures and witness the changes on his beloved
country. Now I understand the phrase “PARA SA BAYAN” and I think it’s bizarre to
think and say and it gives me chills that I am doing everything I could, every dream,
every aspect of my life to sacrifice for my home Philippines, to bring back it’s color and
honor and to bring back it’s roots and to bring back the people to be united as one.
Humanities and Social Sciences is more than a word or a career, it’s the beginning of a
lifetime commitment to learning, educating, nourishing and most importantly advocating.
Let us be the voice of the silent, the eyes of the blind and the cure for the cancer that
keeps on destroying and corrupting our beautiful society. Being open minded and
cooperative is something we should practice more, we should not be separated just
because of our beliefs and life perspectives, but somehow respect each-others
boundaries but not the one that creates line for us hate one another, we Filipinos know
better than that, we are smart and clever race. Whatever career you chose social
science or not always do it for the country, the principles of being a good citizen is
staying here when it’s chaos, we need one another, do it Para sa Bayan.
