OVERVIEW:

Agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops and raising
livestock. It includes the preparation of plant and animal products for people to use
and their distribution to markets.

Agriculture provides most of the world’s food and fabrics. Cotton, wool, and leather
are all agricultural products. Agriculture also provides wood for construction and
paper products.

CONTENT:
PERFORM ESTIMATION AND BASIC CALCULATION
Farm tools, implements, and equipment play very important role in agricultural crop
production.
Unlocking:
Plowing= tilling the land with a plow.
Harrowing= Cultivation of the soil with a harrow.
Mulching= is an excellent alternative to traditional mowing if you want to avoid
having to deal with grass clippings
Furrow= A trench plowed in the ground

What is farm input?

Farm Inputs
The resources that are used in farm production, such as chemicals, equipment, seed,
and energy. Most farm inputs are purchased (a change from the days when animals
powered most operations), making production costs susceptible to nonfarm economic
conditions.
Example
Fertilizer Seeds Seedings Insecticides Labors
Fertilizer = a chemical or natural substance added to soil or land to increase its
fertility.
seeds= a flowering plant's unit of reproduction, capable of developing into another
such plant.
Seedlings= is a young plant, already grown from a seed.
Insecticides= a chemical substance used for killing insects.
Labor= the body of persons engaged in such activity, esp. those working for wages

Labor requirement for land preparation

Plowing using tractor
Clearing of the land using hoe
Plowing using animal
Harrowing using hand tractor

Labor requirement for land preparation

Preparation of Furrow Trellis Preparation (for cucurbit crops)
Mulching digging holes (for orchard)

Labor requirement in planting

production of seedlings Transplanting

LABOR REQUIREMENT FOR PLANT CARE

Fertilizer application Pesticides Application
Irrigation
Weeding
Harvesting-

Estimating Farm Inputs and Labor Requirements

Estimated irrigation expenses from planting up to last harvest Irrigation expenses =

Estimated worker hired to perform irrigation from planting to harvest

Estimated workers = Worker x Total land area
Estimated number of days fro spraying insecticides (per worker)
Estimated no. of days = no. of days x Total land area
Estimated workers needed for spraying insecticides (in one day)
Estimated workers = No. of worker x Total land area

Estimated cost of insecticides use for spraying

Estimated cost = Price x No. of insecticides x Total land area
