(An Action Research Proposal)

I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Another observable factors in the performance of children is the poor attendance as it

seen based from the School Form 2 or the Daily Attendance Monitoring Sheet it was

observed that the different indicators listed as reasons for absences and dropping out of

students from their classes and that Bannawag Integrated School is not exempted to these

kinds of distractions in the facilitation of education.

Teachers on the other hand as the main instrument in the delivery of lessons, they are the

one’s responsible in the process and transportation of learnings to the students. Believing that

encountering these issues and problems in their classes there are direct effects their

performances especially on teaching and learning process which in return also affects the

performance of the learners as results shown in their performance, and percentage of

involvement in the school activities and even school community.

Strategies employed like home visitations, parents and teachers conferences, Homeroom

Parents and Teachers Association or HRPTA meeting are some of the measures identified to

ensure the involvement of parents in the performance of students having difficulty in the class

and observed with poor participation and performance on school activities. Aside from all the

everyday monitoring activities still some students lost and incur absences in their classes.

Checking of attendance, giving roles and responsibilities, assignments, projects and

other intervention to hold the students are just some of the activities that teachers are

doing to be able to let students hold on to their classes. Teacher tried some efforts to be

able to set lessons and activities but there are always absences and less participation of

students which in return affect the facilitation of learning. Lesson suffers for not attaining

objectives and goals, same through with teachers making adjustments to finish required

lessons, and lastly, the learners do suffer for lacking of interests, attendance and low

performance in the classes, and the hard thing is teachers are always share some factors in

the performance of students.

In the end, still the institution has still the responsibility to constantly pursue its

mission and vision and as stated at the Department of Education, “the states, to protect

and promote the right of every Filipino to quality, equitable and complete basic

education”.

In this research, it aims to address the problem on some issues found out base from

the School Form 2 or the Daily Report Attendance, Test Papers, Class record, and other

forms of assessments of learner of Bannawag Integrated School. This tool believe that

this will improve the students’ school performance especially when students are properly

monitored, guided and are supervise regularly through an official information from the

school authorities. Learners’ participation are checked for all school activities with the

cooperation of parents and guardians thus, resulted to higher level of academic

performance. The CHATS Classic will be disseminated to all the parent identified of the

Grade 9 students in the manner of communication letter with attach letter of acceptance

and confirmation of the said intervention. This strategy will be discussed in the end of

First Grading period during the Homeroom Parents and Teachers Association (HPTA)

meeting and all the details on how it will be implemented and how this activity will be

tracked for its full implementation.

The CHATS Classic is not just a text brigade confirming attendance of the students in

their classes. It is a classified as an official information giving updates as well as a

monitoring tool to all the school activities and confirmation of the participation of

students to their school involvement and achievements.

The CHATS Classic is tool to encourage parents to be participative in the supervision

and monitor of their children from all the school and community performances.

II. ACTION REASEARCH QUESTION

This action research attempts to find out the effectiveness of Communication

Harnesses the Attendance and Scholastic Performance (CHAT CLASSIC) of Grade 9

Students of Bannawag Integrated School.

A. Specifically it will answer the following questions.

1. What is the mean the score of the respondents before and after the implementation

intervention?

2. Is there a significant difference of the respondents’ scholastic performance before and

after the intervention?

4. What is the effect size of the proposed intervention on the attendance and scholastic

performance of the respondents?

III. PROPOSED INTERVENTION, STRATEGIES, INOVATION

The CHATS CLASSIC (Communication Harnesses Active Participation and

Scholastic Performance) is a classic and high techie way of ensuring communication with

students and parents through which a strategy to increase the participation of parents in

the supervision and a coordinated monitoring of their children in the classroom and other

school activities and programs.

Today, technology is in its way up high and soaring more for giving information and

communication amongst people becomes accessible even to the far flange areas.

Monitoring and documentation become light and easy for performances. Schools being

one of the institutions which rely much information from the internet and in the education

process using information and communication technology (ICT).

Parents are informed and guided with school activities wherein their child is

encouraged to participate or be in their classes during the school days. The same also

parents are informed if their child is not in the school or absent/cut classes and nowhere

present in during the school programs and activities. The CHAT tool also invites parent to

be participative to school programs and activities allowing them to monitor their child

performance. This will also ensure safety and security of the students as one of the duties

of Department of Education as stipulated in the Child Policy Program of Department of

Education Guidelines # 1. To address information, education, reporting system, exercise

of disciplinary action and recommendation to address and prevent all forms of child

abuse.

This covers from First and Second Grading. The proposed intervention will used the

School Form 2 or the Daily Monitoring Attendance, First and Second Grading Grade

Sheets, and other monitoring sheets and assessment forms as documents to support the

basis of the data gathered.

IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHOD

Descriptive- Quantitative Research design will be used in this research

A. Participants and/or other Sources of Data- The study will be conducted to

the Grade 9 students of Bannawag Integrated School from June 2019 to November

2019 employing universal sampling technique in the form of taking the Grade 9

students of Section Mahinhin and Dakila for the School Year 2019-2020.

B. DATA GATHERING METHOD- The means of collecting data for the

research will be from the previous monthly percentage of attendance from June,

July and August respectively and the General Percentage Average in the 1 st

Grading Period. Then again GPA and the percentage of attendance in the month of

September, October and November respectively for the Second Grading Period. It

aims to find out if there is a significant effect in the percentage of the Attendance

and Scholastic performance. The results after the intervention will be evaluated

and compared to find the effectiveness of the CHAT CLASSIC intervention and if

this is able to address some of the problems like poor attendance and poor

participation and Scholastic performance.

C. DATA ANALYSIS- The statistical tool to be used in this study are the

following:

1. The Mean will be used to get the pre and post average grades and standard

deviation will be used to determine the homogeneity of the test and this will

answer question number 1 in the research question;

2. Paired t-test will be used as the statistical tool to determine the significant

difference of the scores before and after the implementation of the intervention

which will answer the question number 2; and

3. eta² will be used to evaluate the effect size of the intervention in improving the

academic performance of the Grade 9 students.
