What Employability skills are illustrated in each example? (See table next page)

(1) Tim works in a MacDonald’s. When his friend John has trouble keeping up the supply of fries
because they are so busy, he jumps in and helps him. He gets new bags of uncooked fries and
may even pack some of the fries for John himself.

(2) Sally works part time in a newsagent. She regularly gets complaints about the paper boy
delivering papers to the wrong houses in the morning. Using Google maps, she prints out a
picture of each house on his route, with the street number and papers this house should
receive. Hopefully this will make his job easier.

(3) Jim works as technical assistant helping people in an office with computing problems. He has
recently enrolled in a post grad certificate in Information Technology to improve his
understanding of computer software and his ability to do his job.

(4) Gina works in a real estate office. Her boss calls her Goodle and she finds this offensive.
Frequently she is tempted to lose her temper and call him ‘Fatso’, instead she calmly tells
him she would like him to use her proper name instead of Goodle.

(5) Jack is employed as a forklift driver in a large factory. Last week another storeman slipped
on the polished floor and broke his ankle. Jack administered first aid and called an
ambulance. He then organised for the factory floor to be resealed with a non-slip sealant.

(6) Lynette works as a salesperson at Harvey Norman. Every day she has to deal with a range of
vexatious customers. When a disgruntled customer approaches her she sits them and offers
them a cup of tea. She also calmly tries to find a solution to their problem and resolves any
misunderstandings. She is successful in most cases.

Each of the above scenarios illustrate one or more employability skills.

On the following page, write the employability skills that each demonstrates.
