CONTEXTUALIZED LESSON PLAN IN BIOLOGY

I. Objective (S7LT-IIc-3)

At the end of the period, the students are expected to:

1. Identify the different levels of organization from organism to biosphere;
2. Describe and give example of each level of organization from organism to biosphere.

KBI: Appreciate the complexity of ecosystems as a big unit made of interdependent parts.

III. Procedure

A. Review (3 minutes)
Using flash cards, review the following terms in random: cell, tissue, organ, organ system, &
organism.
Ask a student to arrange the words from simplest to most complex.

B. Motivation (2 minutes)
The class will be shown a picture of a terrestrial ecosystem taken from Amandiwing. Ask: what
does the picture show? What organisms will you find here?

C. Presentation of Lesson (1 minute)

What do you think is our lesson for today?

D. Lesson Proper

Activity
Activity #1: “Which comes first and which comes last?” (2 minutes)
Group activity: The learners will be given meta-cards with each of the following words written on
each one of them: organism, population, community, ecosystem, & biosphere. Learners will
arrange the words following the levels of organization from organism to biosphere.

Activity #2: “I am who am wall.” (15 minutes)

Group activity: Each group will be assigned to one learning station. Each learning station describes
a specific level of organization.

Each group learns in each station for 3 minutes and will interact with it by answering the following
questions on prepared activity sheets: “What am I?”; “What am I made of?”; “What are my
examples?”; & “Can you give more examples of me?”

Analysis (2 minutes)
What are the levels of organization bigger than the organism?
What is each level made of?
What are examples of each level of organization?

Abstraction (20 minutes)

Each group will be given 3 minutes each to present their answers.
The answers will be discussed and processed focusing on concepts the learners need to learn
based on the stated objectives.

Deepening guide questions:

What makes each level of organization different from the other?
Would the lower level of organization affect the higher levels of organization? How?

Application (4 minutes)
There used to be plenty of Ihalas nga Baboy in Amandiwing but its number has decreased.
How will this affect higher levels of biological organization?

IV. Evaluation (10 minutes)

Pedro wrote down things that make up the Amandiwing ecosystem as follows:
