8.0 METHODOLOGY

 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
(A) Handling & Storage:
 The pipes & fittings shall be unloaded according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
 Pipes shall be stacked on a flat surface free from moisture, sealed end pipe and shall be given
adequate supports at all time.
 Delivery of pipes and fittings shall be checked/inspected by consultant engineer to ensure all
items in the delivery note are correct prior to signing/acceptance of delivery. Any shortage or
damaged items should be recorded on the delivery note.

(B) Preparation:
 Approved materials shall be purchased in accordance with the approved shop drawings and

 All pipe installation shall be coordinated to all trade activities.
 Proper materials which include pipes and fittings are to be selected and used according to
approved shop drawing and good engineering practices.
 Sufficient stock of materials, tools, testing equipment’s and consumables along with sufficient
manpower shall be arranged to carry out the work.
 Prior to start of activity, area and access will be inspected to ensure that the area is ready to
start the work.
 Ensure that all openings are in correct location and as per approved drawings.
 Safe and tidy work place, clear access to the work place, method of shifting materials and tools
are to be ensured.
 Painting of pipes.
 Fabrication of pipes.

(C) Painting of Pipes:

 The surface preparation of pipes is done by using cotton waste and thinner (wherever required).
 Ensure that the surface is free of dust and all other contaminants before proceeding for
painting.
 Apply wash primer with brush (A+B) as first coat on pipe.
 Waiting 2 hour for drying then apply a coat of red paint

(D) Fabrication of Pipes:

D1 Threading:
 Check to ensure the cutter, reamer and die head are swung to UP position.
 Make the pipe at desired length, if it is being cut to length
 Place the pipe in between the machine and cut it by using cutter.
 Use reamer to clear the edge.
 Place the die head on the position
 Turn carriage hand wheel to bring dies against end of pipe. Continue applying pressure
to hand wheel to start dies.
 When desired length of thread has been reached, depress release handle to discharge
latch. Die head will open automatically.
 Release foot switch and turn carriage hand wheel clockwise to back die head off.
 Swing die head to UP position

D2 Grooving:

 Lift the pipe and one side to be on the stand. Other side, insert between the grooving
upper and lower rollers.
 Adjust the rollers to hold the pipe and the Die Set (2 ½ -6 “) for grooving will be selected
as per the pipe size from 2 ½ “to 6 “and other die set (6-8 “) will be used for the pipes
from 6 to 8 inches.
 Start the grooving machine
 Apply the hydraulic pressure to groove wheel till we reach the specified depth.
 Stop the machine and remove the pipe.
 Check and groove width and finish. If found OK, send for installation
(E) Installation Procedure:
 Ensure that all tools needed for installation are ready.
 Before starting the high level, works scissor lift must be inspected by trained technicians, levelling
hydraulic jacks, lift movement and cage must be checked.
 Pipe supports shall be installed in the Purlins by means of drilling and thread rods should be
hanged in proper alignment and position.
 Area to be cordoned off while high level installation.
 Measure locations of supports and drill concrete slab and install unfix, threaded rods and pipe
clamps.
 For pipe lifting scissor lift with safe working platform and cage from all four sides shall be used.
 While lifting the pipes in scissors lift make sure that pipes are not loose, either it shall be tied by
a proper clamp arrangement shall be made in order for safe lifting of pipes
 Pipe risers will be supported by means of channels & with U-bolts (GI), nuts and washers.
 Pipe work shall be aligned properly before final connection.
 Valves and other equipment’s shall be installed where indicated in the approved drawings.
 Pipe ends and equipment are to be covered with plastic sheet to ensure no foreign materials will
penetrate inside.
 Riser pipes will be erected by using the Chain block, pulley, Rope and web slings floor by floor and
the proper rigid supports will be provided in the shafts (if any) by using channels and u clamps.
 Sample for pipe installation shall be raised by contractor for consultant approval.
 Paint finishes to be uniform after installation and shall be approved by consultant.
 From existing Hose reel pipe nearby pump room 6” pipe is taken coming out and connect with
hydrant network.
 The hydrant network half GI pipes are covered by existing areas and half underground HDPE pipes
are covered by proposed area.
 Sprinkler Pipe connection to be taken from hydrant network from HDPE pipe near the proposed
area.
 After getting pipe from underground HDPE need to rise higher and connect alarm check valve for
sprinkler system.
 If we took pipe connection from hydrant system for each side consider 250 gallon and 6.9
pressure.
 The remaining pressure and flow of water is sufficient for sprinkler system.
 So, we consider to take pipe for sprinkler through hydrant system to reduce and protect the water
flow and pressure of system.

(F) Method of Pipe Connection:

 Using pipe cutter, cut the desired length of pipe to be connected and ensure the cut end of pipe
is square and free.
 For 65mm diameter and above, cut the pipe and roll groove and level both ends using grooving
machine.
 For 50mm diameter and below, cut the pipe thread both ends by threading machine before fixing
threaded fittings.
 All welding works including fabrication of rigid pipe supports shall be done in workshop at the site
METHOD OF TESTING

 Fill complete pipeline with water avoiding any air column. (For this purpose keep the drain valve
at the highest elevation slightly open, while filling water when line is completely filled with water
close the valve)
 By a pressure pump pressurize the line to an intermediate pressure, say 100 psi. Wait for 5
minutes; check all major joints for any visible leak.
 If the system is OK as per the above points again pressurize the system to 150 psi and wait for 10
minute for any drop in pressure or leakage.
