WHAT IS TOURISM?
TOURISM DEFINED

as the:
➤ “…social, cultural and economic
phenomenon that entails the
movement of people to countries or
places outside their usual environment
for personal or business/professional
purposes…”

➤ Tourism has something to do with their


activities, some of which will involve
tourism expenditure

➤ ACTIVITY - should take place within 24


hours and should not last for more than a
year.

➤ EXCURSIONIST: activities done within


24 hours; the area is not very far from the
usual residence

➤ RESIDENT: more than a year stay, not a


tourist

coming from origin to provide income to
area visited.
