Afro-Asian literature is very rich it comes to myth and legend.

The culture of the different countries included in Asian continent are
often reflected in the said literary pieces. These types of short
stories are prevalent in Afro-Asian literature but there are still
instances in which these two are confused. To further understand
these two types of short stories, let’s take a look at the following
distinctions.
A myth tends to give a religious or supernatural explanation
behind a particular concept, action, or custom. Also, a myth tends
to be timeless mainly because the events are seen as symbolic, not
historical.
On the other hand, a legend is told as if it was a historical event.
In contrast to a myth, which aims to explain a particular event, a
legend seems to be an expanded version of historical event with a
touch of some truth to it.
