1
Foreword
This reflection report was written for my Personal Development class as part of my Bachelor degree
program of Marketing Management at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, The
Netherlands. Over the course of that time while I was writing this reports, I gained deeper insight into
myself and my own behavior. It was a fascinating experience and it helped me to become a better
student and person.

Chapter 1

1.1 Introduction
On the 21st September of 2022 I experienced a conversation that gave me more insight into myself than
into my discussion partner. A conversation that made me move away from old and outdated believes

1.2 Personal Development - Monday, 19.09.2022

In our very first lesson of Personal development an interesting new side of thought was handed to me in
my conversation with Drs. Jager.

Having discussed several organizational topics of the day, the agenda moved on to the personal talks
with our teacher Drs. Jackie Jager. In the conversation we discussed the additional facilities that are
offered at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences to support students with special needs. During the
conversation I felt more understood from my teacher and from the institution that I did before in my
educational career.

I failed to confront my prior believes during the conversation but managed to gain a new outlook on
what society offers people with special needs regarding their educational career. I would like to change
my hard and strict behavior towards myself in the coming months.

Chapter 2

1.1 Introduction
Celebrating Drs. Jager´s birthday was also a chance to bring some kind of dish that is unique to our
home-countries. Bringing pretzels, laying them down at the front table and enjoying my time with
creating a Spotify playlist made me realize how my behavior affects others.

1.2 Personal Development - Monday, 26.09.2022

In our second class of Personal development, and a quite unconventional one as well, the behavior of
myself in group dynamics was tested and reviewed in a very comfortable and amusing way.

In this week´s personal development class we held a little birthday party to Jackie´s honor. The week
before that she told us that we are more than invited to bring a dish that is uniquely connected with our
country. Pretzels were my second choice as I realized that bringing beer might lead to some unwanted
controversy. After placing my pretzels at the front table next to Jackie´s cake, so they are accessible for
everyone, I created a little list of songs in Spotify and went back to my table. Coming back to my place
and chatting a little with my class mates, I realized that in group dynamics I am somewhat more
proactive than others. I was one of the only ones that really showed his taste in music openly and also
started more conversations. For the next time I want to keep this behavior but also motivate others
more to engage more openly.

Chapter 3

1.1 Introduction
Through a closer look on what the Pomodoro technique talks about, I was able to rethink how I was
structuring my day and the given assignment to schedule two past weeks was a handy exercise for that.

1.2 Personal Development – Monday, 03.10.2022

Having a closer look at the Pomodoro technique and beneficial time savers was something that I have
not expected in the first place when I entered this study.

As mentioned earlier this week´s Personal Development class gave me a greater insight on how to use
time effectively. Regarding the Pomodoro technique I must say that I personally think that it is very
useful when it comes to productivity but not handy regarding planning and working by it on day-to-day
basis. I personally like the approach better to work actively and involved on something for ninety
minutes and then taking a thirty-minute break after it. This approach allows me to calm my mind down
with either meditation, sports or just taking a walk. Especially while focusing on activities that are
involving learning or other mind-intense tasks this comes very handy.

After gaining a deeper understanding about the Pomodoro technique, I gave some thoughts to the time
wasters mentioned and came to the realization that nearly all of them are already incorporated in my
routine. Before I am starting to study or to work, I am always setting my telephone on airplane mode, to
make sure that I am easily falling into a state of flow where these activities become nearly effortless. The
later point mentioning that all topics of group projects which are going to be worked must be discussed
in advance is a technique that is now on my list to incorporate it as soon as possible.

On the following page I want to present my weekly schedule. As I am often focused on family matters,
sports, contact classes or other I started to schedule my study sessions in the evening which allows me to
work in peace and without distractions.

7
1.3 Weekly Schedule
The design of my weekly schedule was somewhat inspired by the Pomodoro technique and the Spaced
Repetition technique alike. As seen above I structured my week in two different building blocks that
repeat themselves three times each. I left a greater space for University contact classes / Business due to
the fact that with always changing schedules an ongoing planning is just not time effective and would
likely become a reason for procrastination itself.

8
1.4 Period Planner
In the Period Planner I noted down every section that was mentioned in the planning documents that
can be found for block one on Blackboard.

Chapter 4

1.1 Introduction
This week Personal Development class was special. Because of it I could clearly understand why
procrastination occurs and on the contrary how it can disappear.

1.2 Personal Development - Monday, 09.10.2022

In the middle of our lesson, after having discussed reasons for why procrastination happens to everyone,
we were split into groups and could see ourselves what is also capable to eliminate it.

While having a lesson where procrastination itself, the reasons for it, ways to end it and personal
problems that might lead to it were discussed Leah, Karmen, Cosmina, Jane and myself were put
together in a group to discuss in depth the topics mentioned above. I directly understood that the reason
for why everybody was working fast and coordinated was the fact that we were given a time limit and a
clear task that was not too easy and not too complicated for the granted amount of time. From this
lesson I can definitely take two lessons with me. In order to not procrastinate you have to have a clear
and achievable goal that is not too complicated for you, yet not too easy. Also it is of crucial importance
to associate your goal with a desirable outcome. The outcome here was not to be unable to present a
piece of work and so feeling embarrassed in front of the class.
