The pre-service teacher will be evaluated according to the following criteria:


Achieved (3): The pre-service teacher demonstrates competence in the aspect described.
Developing (2): The pre-service teacher needs improvement in the aspect described.
Not achieved (1): The pre-service teacher does not demonstrate competence in the aspect described.

*Lesson plan must be handed in (or submitted via email) at least 48 hours before the class observation. If any changes
are made after this date, they need to be duly justified no later than 24 hours before the class supervision.

I. LESSON PLANNING (X2)

The Pre-service teacher:


1. hands in/submits the lesson plan 48 hours before the
supervision, or a corrected version (justifying changes) no later
than 24 hours before the observation.
2. Plans instruction in accordance with learning outcomes
and context (i.e., learning objective, activities and assessment
are aligned)
3. Plans instruction in accordance with the age level of the
students.
4. Sequences lessons to ensure coherence and required prior
knowledge (opening, development and closure).
5. Selects appropriate activities for each stage of the lesson.
6. Plans engaging and challenging lessons.
7. Selects varied instructional strategies and resources to
provide comprehensible instruction.
8. Uses language learning theories and methodologies to plan
lessons so as to facilitate students´ learning.

II. LESSON DELIVERY AND QUALITY OF INSTRUCTION (X2)


The pre-service teacher:
1. Applies varied instructional strategies and resources to
provide comprehensible instruction.
2. Explains instructional objectives in English, (simple
language) and in Spanish only when necessary (after using
other strategies to convey meaning in English).
3. Shows command of the content(s) and relates it (them) with
previous knowledge of the students.
4. Models clear, acceptable linguistic skills.
5. Creates learning experiences that require students to
demonstrate applicable linguistic skills.
6. Gives clear instructions in English, and in Spanish when
strictly necessary.
7. Delivers a lesson that engages students (i.e., encourages
participation and interest)
8. Delivers a challenging lesson in which language input is
right above students’ current level.
9. Performs according to planned instructional design.
10. Adapts planned instruction and/or resources when
necessary, during teaching.
11. Promotes understanding of content (i.e., clear
explanations, use of body language, visual support, etc).
