Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
a. Preliminary Activities 2 minutes Our Most Gracious and loving Heavenly Father, we are thankful for this wonderful
morning that you have added to our life. .. Amen
Opening Prayer
I am requesting everyone to please stand for the word of prayer. I
am requesting Mara to please lead the prayer.
Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning Sir

You may now take your seat.

Attendance
May I know who are absent today? None sir.

Okay. Good
A. Reviewing or presenting the new lesson 3 minutes .
Before we formally start our next lesson for today, I would
like to ask who can recall our last topic?

Yes Angeline?
Our last topic is about rational algebraic expression sir

Very good. Who can define rational algebraic expression?

Rational algebraic expression is an expression containing a numerator and
denominator that are both polynomials. It is an expression of P(x) and Q(x) in the
Okay very good. P( x )
form of , where Q(x) ≠ 0.
Q (x)

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson 5 minutes

Dodo is the fastest painter in Lampaki. He have finished painting

the wall in 4 hours. What part of the wall is painted by Dodo in 2
hours? 2/4 sir.
Very good. Since Dodo painted the wall in 4 hours, we can divide
the wall into 4 parts. Where each part is painted for an hour. To
answer the question to which part is painted in 2 hours, we take two
parts. We can write it as fraction, 2/4 or we can simply express that
in its simplest form which is ½.

A. Presenting examples of the new lesson 2 minutes

Now, can you identify which of the following rational Answers:

algebraic expression is in their simplest form? 1. simplest form
5 ab 2. not
1.
2 3. not
5 a b2
2.
10 b

5x
3.
10 x +15 xy
B. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 Students are listening.
Let’s discuss the 6 different properties.
10 minutes
In simplifying rational algebraic expression, it is important
that we know how to factor numbers and expressions. In
your elementary day, you have discussed prime
factorization. Prime factorization is the method of braking
down a number into its prime numbers. Prime numbers are
numbers which is greater than 1 and they only have two
factors, 1 and the number itself.
What are example of prime numbers? 2, 5,and 7 sir.
Very good. Those are some of the example of prime numbers.

For example.
3 2
6a b
2
12a b

( 2 )( 3 ) ( a )(a)(a)(b)(b)
=
(2)(2)(3)(a)(a)(b)

( 2 )( 3 ) ( a )( a)(a)(b)(b)
(2)(2)(3)(a)(a)(b)

Now, li List all the numbers and variables left in the expression. We have

6 a3 b 2
This is now the simplest form of .
12a 2 b
Remember that the expression is in its simplest form if the
only factor are 1 and itself.

C. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

5 minutes

x 2−1 ( x−1)(x+ 1) ( x−1)

Another example. 2 = = . This is now
x +2 x+ 1 (x +1)(x+1) ( x +1)
the simplified form. Any questions? None sir.

D. Developing Mastery
3 minutes Answer:
Okay kindly answer this one. You can solve in your 2
4 x +12 x 4 ( x+3) 4
notebook. = =
x +6 x +9 (x +3)(x+ 3) ( x +3)
2
2
4 x +12 x
x2 +6 x +9

E. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily Answer.

living. 5 minutes
Rational algebraic expressions can be used in work
problems. For example, working alone it takes John 30
minutes to wash the car. Jacob can was the car in 45 minutes.
How long would it take John and Jacob to wash the car if
they work together?
This work problem can be solve using rational algebraic
expression. But we have lesson for that.
F. Making Generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
4 minutes If no other factor except 1 and itself sir.
When we can say that a rational algebraic expression is in its
simplest form?
How do you simplify rational algebraic expressions?
We can simplify rational algebraic expressions through factoring sir.
Very good.
