 Etiquette the customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group.

Responsible use of softwares:
• Copyrighted Software
• Freewares/Shareware (EULA)
Responsible use of social media:
• The first thing we have to remember is that the use of social media is not required for us to live our lives properly.
• Yes—it provides us a way to reach out and tell our stories, yet as you have read and researched, or even
experienced yourself, it can be quite addictive.

We must keep in our mind these questions:

 Who am I accountable to?
 Who holds me accountable?

Establishing e-Habits

Why would people demonstrate less citizenship while using technology and online
tools?

Online, people can feel invisible and capable of doing things they normally
wouldn't do in person or in public - things that they know might be wrong.
Technology tools are relatively new to society and rules have not all been
developed for the proper use and ethics. It’s harder to judge and make
decisions as to what is right and wrong in some cases. With this, we must
be mindful of what we do online even if there is no one watching us.

Proper Etiquettes
Here are some of the things that we could do in order to show proper attitude.
And tell me, how can we apply this with the use of the technologies that we have
today..

1. Use technology to communicate, share and contribute to society and learning

2. Use technology in a respectful manner (turn cell phones OFF/or on vibrate during a performance, class)
3. Use language, text, images, and intent courteously
4. Do not spread pictures, viruses, gossip, information about others, example: cyberbullying, Do not trespass

5. Downloading large files takes up network band width, especially in public networks
6. Do not use others’ usernames and passwords (do not impersonate another)
7. Do not download or take software, images, text that are copyrighted (music and videos)

LESSON 11 – The Tools of the Trade

This special chapter is dedicated to helping the digital native pick out necessary tools for their survival in the
digital landscape. This a short list of recommended applications and software that anyone can use. While these
may not be recognized as the best in their line of functions (such things are always being debated), these are
tried and tested by many and have been solid choices. The list is mostly comprised of software which are free
and/or Open Source, thus saving money for those intent on using them to their full potential. This chapter is
bound to grow, shift and change as it adapts to the times; but for now—read on and find the next tool you will
be using to thrive.
Google Suite Products—an alternative to your favorite productivity tool(s).
Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Forms are some of the few web-based services integrated with Google Drive.
Like Microsoft Office’s Word, Excel and Powerpoint, this allows users to create and edit documents, work on spreadsheets, and
generate presentations online while collaborating with other users in real-time. The best thing about them is that they can work offline
using Google Chrome, or as apps for Android and iOS. Additionally, they work with file formats compatible with Microsoft Office and
similar software. All files created are saved by default to Google Drive, making it accessible across devices through syncing.

Free Cloud Storage for Everyone

 Google Drive, you get 15GB worth of storage just for having a Google
account—something you would have to do if you use Android or Gmail. And
while you that space is shared across all Google Suite Products, it’s
sometimes more than enough to cover basic storage necessities for the
typical individual. If not, you could always upgrade to a paid account for
more Gigabytes of storage. The best thing about Google Drive is that it syncs
with collaboration and third-party tools by Google and from recognized
partners.

 OneDrive is another online storage service you can use. It is a desktop application which
you can use to transfer files and folders from one device to another. Signing up gets you 5
GB of free space, which you can slowly increase by doing tasks like friend referrals.

 pCloud—which is quite similar to OneDrive but instead offers you 10GB of free online
space, which you can increase to 20 GB via friend referrals. The client supports adding
files from a remote URL, in addition to file and folder uploads through a web browser—
these can be shared with non-users as well. What’s more, pCloud allows upload links to
be generated so anyone can send files to you.

Photo Editors for Free

 GIMP, is one of the best alternatives to Photoshop right now. It is an Open-Source

platform available for MacOS, Windows, and Linux. You can use a bunch of similar
professional-level editing and retouching tools, with different aesthetics unique to
GIMP.

 Paint.NET. Though originally intended to be a free replacement for MS Paint, Paint.NET

has surpassed its predecessor in terms of functionality and features.

Options for Cinematography—Cheap and Easy.

 Hitfilm Express, a video editor that boasts of professional level
features for free. The free version has features like advanced cutting
tools, a great selection of audio and video filters, layers and masking,
compositing options, and chroma keying for creating green screen
effects. However, it is rather system heavy compared to Lightworks.

 Audacity is a viable and accessible option, yet it is slouch when it

comes to delivering the essential results. It has almost all features
you’ll need, including effects like bass, treble, distortion and noise
removal, among others and more. Coupled with analysis tools such as
beat finder, silence finder, sound finder, and more—makes for a solid
choice for generating and mixing high-quality audio material.

Upping your Presentation Game

 Prezi—a presentation platform that serves as a visual

storytelling software, featuring an overview that lets
presenters pan between topics, zoom in on details, and pull
back to reveal context. The result—an entirely different sense
of movement compared to traditional slide-based presentation
formats.
 Focusky, which uses Adobe Flash and HTML5 technology to create
animated presentations by simple clicks and drags. It is an alternative to
Prezi, and features a user interface unique to the platform, and a
presentation style that involve 3D camera movement, among others.

Web Design and Development Made Easy

 WordPress has remained the most popular by far. Built mainly with PHP and MySQL; it is
free, easy to use and open source, enabling user to consult with a community of
volunteers who regularly make and offer new web development solutions by providing
tasteful themes and software plugins.

 Weebly, and in a similar fashion to WordPress, it’s easy enough to interact with that it
lets you set up a simple website within a matter of minutes. Weebly uses a drag-and-
drop format that enables you to add features and media or remove them, easily.

 Wix, is one that is gaining steam even with its recent introduction to the web
development scene. Wix lets you fabricate HTML5 and mobile-optimized
websites, through a similar drag-and-drop system, and you can add more
functionality by installing a variety of plugins.
