difficult. InSimu Patient is an educational app that helps medical students and
physicians improve their diagnostic skills on an unlimited number of simulated patients
without any risk of causing harm to real patients.

The InSimu Patient app brings an unprecedented level of sophistication to the

case-based learning process. We do not restrict the number or type of diagnostic tests
for each case, giving our users full control over their choices, just as it is in the real

 How Does The Competition Work?
We provide you a ready-made, but flexible competition platform. Competitors can
compete individually or as a team. It’s not necessary to provide devices for your group;
the app runs both on Android and iOS so that competitors can download it easily on
their phones or tablets.

The number of teammates is only limited by their ability to gather round the screen of
the tablet/phone (each team has to use one device during the competition), but this can
be helped by projecting the device to a monitor/TV. The duration of the competition is
also up to you, though in our experience one hour contests are the most popular.

Workflow for organizers

Teams of 1-3 compete with each other in the InSimu Diagnostic Competition. In team
work, all the members take part in the competition equally, making decisions together.
The team will submit their diagnoses through one (1) mobile device (one of the team
members’ phones or tablets) during the competition. Selecting a team leader is required
only for one technical reason: the Competition will be available only on the app signed
in with his/her account.

In an average 1-hour competition, the competitors have to work out the correct
diagnosis of 10 virtual patients using the InSimu Patient app. The competitors are
ranked on a leaderboard based on the collected experience points (XP) and the thinking
time. XP is calculated based on the correctness of the diagnosis, the time and costs of
the performed tests, missed tests and possible harmful diagnostic tests.
What InSimu provides
Organizing a Diagnostic Competition with InSimu couldn’t be easier. We have prepared
2 different packages in order to suit all requirements from the basic to the premium
level.

We build an entirely unique challenge for each Competition based on your

organization’s needs, including the incorporation of the name and logo of your event
and/or organizing body.

For all Competitions, we provide you with a registration website with a custom URL, a
complete guide and written instructions for all participants, and support for the
competitor management, including a streamlined way to grant access to the InSimu
Patient application for the duration of the tournament.

Basic features include real-time detailed results of the competition, showing the
correct diagnostic pathway and the correct diagnosis of the solved cases on the
competitors’ devices. In Premium, we provide a personalized online certificate for the
participants, pre-selection of diseases and/or specializations. Another Premium feature
is the post-event analytics of students’s diagnostic performance so you can learn more
about the blind spots in your students’ knowlegde. On the spot help setting the rules
and giving instructions is also available by request.

As an organizer, the only thing you have to do is spread the word about the
competition, recruit competitors, and provide them with the necessary information
before and during the competition.

International Diagnostic Championship
IFMSA and InSimu ran the first online Diagnostic Championship on July 23, 2018 with amazing
success. We had nearly 200 teams competing in this worldwide team competition that enabled
medical students from all around the world to compare their clinical knowledge on a global sca-

In May 2018 the ’Ace the Case’ Diagnostic Challenge took place at ICMS 2018 Sofia,
Bulgaria, hosting 97 medical students forming 19 competing teams from various
countries from around the globe.
