Second Reflective Report
Any position in management requires due diligence and a diverse set of skill portfolios so that
the staff can be led intelligently. My experience as a shift manager in a leading fast-food chain
Pizza hut equipped me with all the essential technical and transferable skills needed to excel in
my dream career. My internship, however, helped me acquire the practical understanding and
implementation of all the skills and concepts I had gained in my educational degree.
During my internship in Pizza hut, I realized how important it is to receive and give feedback to
ensure that performances are evaluated well and that revisions are being done to improve those
performances. As a shift manager, I made sure that employees know where they are lacking and
how can enhance their performance, I also gathered feedback daily at the end of the shift to learn
if I could better communicate my instructions to them or improve my managerial style.
I learned that effective communication is the key; if you want to make sure that your staff is
working in compliance with the guidelines and ensuring quality assurance, then you have
tocommunicate your point effectively.
A large part of my job included managing schedules and assigning duties to the Employees at the
designated shifts. This meant that I had to be very particular and take multiple aspects into
account. This made me more detail oriented and now I can Foster the same behavior in an
environment with tremendous pressure. I also provided directions to the workers during shifts
and help them execute their job perfectly. As a shift manager, I have to make sure that
everything they were delivering was up to the standard, which meant that I had to reach
everything that they did. This made me realize that as a manager I had to be very meticulous as I
was going to be held responsible for any shortcomings of my team.
Managing cash drawers and preparing bank deposits as a staff manager also helped improve my
financial decision-making and my ability to make more coherent budget decisions. This will
benefit me greatly in my future job prospects, as in today's world organizations are looking to cut
costs. And as a manager, my duty revolved around optimizing our resources and efficiently using
our finances.
Inventory management was also one of the key aspects of my job description; we practice lean
inventory management at Pizza Hut. This meant that we always had stock but we did not acquire
large amounts of inventory that we knew was going to go to waste. I also made sure that any
waste that could be reused did not end up in trash bins. Sustainability and recycling were also
something that I practiced consciously during my job. I believe the future of organizations is
going to gravitate around green choices, and therefore it is always good to be prepared
beforehand. My internship experience has helped me foster and maintain a positive work
environment, which makes me a key asset and a desirable and qualified employee.
