CONTEMPORARY ART PRACTICES

APPROPRIATION - when an artist creates a new work of art by taking pre-existing images
from other sources and incorporates those images with new ones.

PERFORMANCE ART - a modern craftmanship that combine music, dance, poetry, theater,
visual arts, and video.

SPACE - refers to the distances or areas surrounding within the components of an item.
- Positive Space refers to the subject of the piece itself.
- Negative Space refers to the empty spaces the artist has created around, between
and within the subjects.

HYBRIDITY - use of unusual materials to produce an artwork. Mixing of two or more


elements to create a third. Blend unconventional materials like recycled or industrial
materials with traditional medium to show that these plays an important role in an artwork.

TECHNOLOGY ART - known as new media and contemporary practices that involves
technology in creation and dissemination of artworks. Use of mass production and
manipulation of virtual world.

Salvador, Ozamiz, Oroqiueta, Tangub, Ma-laybalay, Valencia and Iligan.

Emannuel S. Mulawan - He loved watching disney movies,and spent a lot of time drawing.
He is a commercial painter and artist. His artworks are; Ranches Steak House, Kenya Kafe
and etc.

Waway Linsahay Saway - Known as "Rodelio" a teacher of Living Traditions in the highlands
of Sungko, Lantapan, Bukidnon. He lives on his tribes music and art.

John - He is from Bukidnon tribe pf Bukidnon Province. Started doing his artwork since 2003,
took up 6 month short module course in visual arts. He was a member of Association of
Local Artist of Bukidnon (ALAB) and keeps his pieces for collection.

Mark Arazo Bautista - A Filipino actor, singer, and commercial model. Grand finalist of Star
for A Night Show where he placed second.

TJ Monterde - Filipino vocalist known for his recording Ikaw at Ako in 2012.

Emmanuel R. Lacaba - Also known as "Eman" a Filipino writer, poet, essayist, playwright,
fictionist, scriptwriter, songwriter and activist. He was considered as "Poet Warrior of the
Philippines".

Jose Maria Flores - Known as "Pete Lacaba" A Filipino film writer, editor, poet, screenwriter,
journalist and translator. Recognized by his FIRST QUARTER STORM COVERAGE, an anti
marcos movement in 1970.

(FESTIVALS IN REGION 10)

LUBI-LUBI FESTIVAL - a coconut dance or street parade utilizing the city's abundant coco
plants and materials. In celebrations of pece, love and unity among Gingoognons every May
22nd to pay homage to local patroness Sta. Rita De Cascasia.

GOLDEN HARVEST FESTIVAL - a month long festivity celebration of a bountiful golden


harvest of Valencia, Bukidnon.
HUDYAKA FESTIVAL - street dancing competition depicting the history of Laguindingan's
foundation as a Municipality of Misamis Oriental.

DALIT FESTIVAL - held every September 29 in honor of St. Michael the Archangel. A
search for Dalit Festival Queen.

SUBAYAN KEG SUBANEN FESTIVAL - celebrated during 16th of July, in the town of
Ozamiz City, province of Misamis Occidental. It is a week long trade fair and street dancing
to show Subanon Cultural Heritage.

INUG-OG FESTIVAL - eithnic festival of suban-on culture, celebrated every 14th of


October.

PASUNGKO FESTIVAL - pasungko means "thanks giving after a fruitful harvest". Provides a
glimpse of colorful culture of the Subanen People.

DIYANDI FESTIVAL - diyandi means "celebrate " or mag diyandi "to celebrate" every
September.

ALIMANGO FESTIVAL - held every Wednesday, March 22nd.

LAS BOLAS DE FUEGO - annual church festival where young men throw fiery, gasoline
soaked rugs in the town of Nejapa.It is gathered every 31st of August in honor of a volcanic
eruption in 1680.

HIGALAAY FESTIVAL - known as Kagay-an or Higalaay Kagay-an in Cagayan De Oro


every 28th of August, celebrating the feast of St. Augustine, patron saint of the city.

KAAMULAN FESTIVAL - an ethnic festival held annually in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon from
the second half of February to March 10. It is the anniversary date of Bukidnon as a province
in 1917.
