Intellectual Property (IP)
According to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), this refers to the creation of the
minds, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images
used in commerce.

TYPES OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

● Copyright
Legal term used to describe the rights that creators have over their literary and
artistic works.

● Patent
An exclusive right granted for an invention.
● Trademark
A sign capable of distinguishing goods or services of one enterprise from those of
other enterprises.
● Industrial Design
Constitutes the ornamental or aesthetic aspect of an article/object.
● Geographical Indication and Appellation of Origin
The name of the place of origin of the goods/products.

Fair use
It is a copyright of materials without a license only for certain purposes.
Guidelines for fair use
A majority of the content you create must be your own. Give credit to the copyright
holder. Don’t make money off the copyrighted work.

A research is considered as an intellectual property, if a person used or copy someone else’s


work without giving credits or proper citation is considered as plagiarism.

Etiquette
it refers to behaving or acting in a proper way with courtesy and respect.

Netiquette
it refers to a proper attitude that one should observe when communicating online.

Guidelines in using internet or to remember as a netizen with netiquette

● Observe politeness when responding to or sending message with the use of description
in a Subject Line
● In receiving a message, you should reply urgently.
● Review and read again the message before sending it so that it is sure that it is the
message you want to say.
● Don’t send spam or chain messages.
● Asking permission before sharing the post of someone else. Don’t make fun of others
post or images.

Digital divide
It refers to the economic, educational and social inequalities experienced by those who
cannot afford to have computer and internet access
Virtual self
It refers to one’s representation in the virtual world that exists online and available to the
person who is connected to an internet.
Emoji
Moji means “character” in Nihonggo, in using emoticons it represents emotion or idea.

Dangers of the Internet

Addiction
It refers to a condition in which a person seems to have lost control over an action or
behavior, which mental health practitioners deemed as self-destructive.
Cybersex Addiction
compulsive use of internet pornography.
Cyber-relationship Addiction
addiction to social networking, chat rooms, texting, and messaging
Net compulsions
such as compulsive online gaming, gambling, stock trading, or compulsive use of online
auction sites
Information Overload
compulsive web surfing or database searching
Computer Addiction
obsessive playing of off-line computer games or obsessive computer programming
Cyberbullying
It is a type of offensive action toward another which takes place using electronic
technology.
