LABAYUG NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ACCOMPLISHMENT ON

BRIGADA ESKWELA: Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-Aral

Brigada Eskwela, also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week (DepEd Memorandum No. 35,
s. 2016) was officially launched on August 1-26,2022. All education stakeholders contributed their time, effort
and resources in ensuring that the school facilities are ready in time for the school opening. After the two years
distance learning, finally the face-to face class has returned. The school prepared its facilities from classroom
to ground as well as the safety protocols as the in-person classes began.

Environment is one of the elements of the teaching and learning process. It is believed that it has a vital
role in the performance of the learners. The school is an institution which is responsible in molding the learners
into a responsible individual in the society. This is where one is crafted into a better person, who will be an
emblem of the kind of learning center where he was raised. The multifarious concern of school demands
working with others to accomplish designed tasks and objectives. These would need dedicated school
personnel, cooperative parents, accountable community and innovative learners. Bayanihan prevailed during the
Brigada Eskwela in Labayug National High School since, volume of volunteers, partners and stakeholders of
the school worked together in making the school more conducive to learning.

As early as August,the school principal Mrs. Marilou C. Bilagot and the teachers of of Labayug NHS
encouraged and recruited volunteers who would participate in the brigade. Parents, school alumni and other
people from the community were encouraged to join. Since no national government money was put into
Brigada Eskwela, private businesses, NGO’s, private individuals and local government were tapped to solicit
donations to cover the effort of repair and maintenance of the school. It was on July when the school physical
facilities coordinator and some PTA members performed a school ocular to identify the school facilities that
need repair and maintenance. After this, the steering committee planned
different school’s activities for Brigada.

Early morning of August 08,2022, the teachers of Labayug NHS held a kick off program as signaled the
start of Brigada Eskwela in the said school. The program was initiated by the school head and Brigada
coordinator. The presence of different groups of volunteers was acknowledged. Short orientation about the
mechanics of the 10-day activity was given by Mrs. Beatrice B. Apias BE Coordinator. The willing, ready and
able brigade included eager teachers, enthusiastic parents, excited students, and other concern people of the
community.

Various activities started from August 08, 2022 until August 19,2022 where distribution of school
supplies, slippers, notebooks, feeding and reading program as well as skills training were successfully

conducted. These activities were with the assistance of the stakeholders whereas beneficiaries were all the
students enrolled in Labayug NHS.
Amidst the growing population of the school is the completion of school’s facilities to improve the
learning status and physical development around the vicinity of the school. The goal to attain quality education
faces the strong demand of meeting the needs of the learners. Yet, it’s a fact to shoulder responsibilities by
making the institution a well-improved destination to visit. 

On the first day of the week – long brigade, the Department of Technology and Livelihood Education
was assigned to clean the school stone walls in front of the social hall. As the Brigada Eskwela Coordinator,
Mrs. Apias, ensures that the volunteers and teachers under her were doing their assigned work by leading it all
the way. Different groups came by to help clean in different areas of the school. Triage and information bulletin
board were installed to remind students to always keep distances and wear facemask as a health and safety
precautions. New combined color was painted to the stone wall of the school. The wall at the back of the Senior
High School was plastered and finished by the parents and other volunteers. Urinals were installed to boys’
comfort rooms.
After leaning the school grounds and yards, classrooms were also cleaned. Teachers and volunteers, eliminated
unnecessary papers from the past school years; sweep the floor in and out of the room. They started to clean
and remove the dust from the computers to make the room more refreshing for the incoming school year.

August 19,2022, was the last day of the week – long activity of the Brigada Eskwela, all the stakeholders
were given Certificate of Recognition as appreciation for their efforts and volunteerism. Likewise, the program
served as closing program for the Brigada Eskwela 2022 and an opening of the new school year 2022-2023.

Through the overwhelming support of the volunteers, the classrooms are restructured and
spruced up. All school facilities are now in good condition. The school surrounding is now free from tall
grasses. Stone walls has its new color that creates relaxing moods to whoever enters the school. Generally, the
school is now ready for the school opening. Evidences for the activities are attached herewith.
