ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

Part I (90%)

QUESTION/TASK 1 (30%):

OBJECTIVE:
To discuss theory related to organisational development and change.

REQUIREMENT:

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a detrimental impact on many industries. While
many industries are in the recovery stage, the impact of COVID-19 is predicted to
linger until full recovery due to customers’ fears, and a labour shortage. To survive in
the presence of threats and crises, the transformational leadership style is often
considered a powerful driver for the organisation.

Discuss the basic information on transformation leadership by Bass (1985) and how
the theory has been developed. Outline three (3) organisation events and describe
how a transformational leader is restoring their organisation back to survival.

QUESTION/ TASK 2 (60%):

OBJECTIVE:

1. To discuss the concepts and theories of emergent organisational development


and apply them in an organisational setup.
2. To evaluate the issues related to organisational development and change.

REQUIREMENT:
A leader plays an important role in initiating organisational change in order to face
many challenges. Organisational Development (OD) programmes that focus on real
organisational changes have to take into consideration the knowledge, skill, and
attitude needed by a leader that influences their readiness to change.

Select a few journal articles in order to discuss four (4) challenges of OD. Ask the
following questions to 4 employees in an interview based on what you learned from
reading the journal articles.
1. Do you agree with the list (show the 4 challenges) of OD challenges?
2. What are the skills, knowledge, and attitudes a leader needs to meet the
challenges of OD?
3. Are different leader characteristics needed for success in facing the
challenges of OD?
4. How can leader competencies be trained or developed in the face of the
challenges of OD?
Write the interview transcript based on the conversation. Analyse the interview
transcript and recommend two OD programmes for the leaders based on your
analysis.
