An incredible, once in a life time trip to the Loire Valley has been created
by Saint Jacques

September 21st - September 29th, 2008

Sunday 9/21
Depart Raleigh

Monday 9/22
Arrive Nantes, France
Transport via luxury bus to Le Prieuré Hotel – 4 Star (www.prieure.com),
The Loire, its islands, and the surrounding valley as far as the eye can see. In
this land of castles with its easygoing way of life, the white silhouette of this
former Benedictine Priory perched on a cliff surrounding by greenery. Its
vast chimneys, tower and spiral staircase bear witness to the past, whilst its
restaurant with its panoramic view over the Loire offers an innovative menu
respectful of the traditions of Anjou.

You will settle into your room, relax, get acclimated and have a
welcome aperitif and dinner

Tuesday 9/23
· Breakfast at Chateau and departure for Chalonnes-Sur-Loire where you
will discover an authentic outside market with goods and everything edible
(rarely seen in the U.S.) is sold. Stroll along with a guided tour in the middle
of the French patrons.
· Continue, via bus, to Savennieres Professional Cooking School for a
cooking demonstration by the Chef/Owner himself. Lunch will follow with
the different dishes prepared (and of course served with wine), with a nice
walk in the vineyards afterwards.
· A guided visit of another vineyard by the Proprietor of the domaine along
with a tasting of its regional wines. Return to hotel where dinner will be
served.

Wednesday 9/24
· Breakfast and then departure in the direction of d’Yzernay for an excursion
out of the ordinary.
Plan to board private cars dating from the 1920 – 1935 with a bus from
1952 (many of them used for classic French movies) which will transport the
group on a magnificent journey through Forét de Vezins, the Chateau d
Villefort, Le cimetiere des Martyrs, ….
· Stop at the Castle of Bois de Saint-Louis where the ladies of this castle will
be awaiting our arrival for a welcome cocktail and a visit of the castle.
· Departure for Maulevrier for a gastronomic lunch at the Chateau Colbert.
A guided visit of the Oriental park (the largest Japanese garden in France)
to follow. Return to the hotel for a little relaxation and dinner.

Thursday 9/25
· Breakfast and then departure for a guided visit of the Chateau de Brissac,
known at the “Giant of the Loire Valley”. The Marquise & Marquis
themselves who will open their castle for a tour and then a wine degustation
with the wine of the castle, will greet you
· A lunch will be served in the medieval kitchen by the fireplace.
· After lunch the group will continue on to Saint-Barthelemy-D’Anjou for a
guided visit of the Cointreau Museum, and a degustation of the famous
liquor. Free time in the village center of d’Angers then back to the hotel for
another lovely dinner.

· We will disembark at the feet of the Caves Bouvet-Ladubay where we will
be greeted with an aperitif and then dinner in the underground cellar lighted
by the candelabra. Return to the hotel.

Saturday 9/27

mushroom cellar. You will discover a troglodyte habitation (prehistoric cave
dweller) and an escargot farm. Then you will be able to enjoy regional

years of history). Return to the hotel and dinner.
