SCIENCE REMEDIATION SESSION FOR GRADE 8

ACTIVITY DESIGN
I. GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title : Grade 8 Science Remediation Session
Date : November 8-9
Budget : None
Venue : Science Room

II. RATIONALE:
Based on the result of First Periodic Test done last October 27-28, 2022, there are
learners who did not perform well and failed their test in Science 8 covering the areas
of Motion and Forces, Work, Power & Energy, thus the teachers cope with a
remediation session activity.

Table 1 shows the MPS result of the Grade 8 Sampaguita, Lily, Rose, Ilang-Ilang and
Bluebell from the First Periodic Test.

The table revealed that the five sections of Grade 8 garners a MPS result of 55.124
which is considered average based from the given scale of the Department of
Education in terms of MPS as stipulated from DepEd Memorandum No. 160, s. 2012.

Furthermore, Table 2 shows the consolidated Item Analysis report of Grade 8

Sampaguita, Lily, Rose, Ilang-Ilang and Bluebell from the First Periodic Test.

The table revealed that some of the items received 50% or less mastery, indicating that
some items are not mastered by the students in the aforementioned set of classes, with
the evidenced resulting Not Mastered Item of 6, 10, 7, 5 and 13 across the classes of
Sampaguita, Lily, Rose, Ilang-Ilang and Bluebell, respectively.

Meanwhile, when the number of Nearly Mastered Item was compared to the number of
Mastered Item, it was discovered that the Nearly Mastered Item outnumbered the
Mastered Item with an evidenced consolidated value of 142 (Nearly Mastered) and 62
(Mastered) (Mastered).

With the elucidated facts given above, the undersigned decided to conduct remediation
sessions to enhance the learning experiences of students who fail to meet the
Department of Education's required standard, with the goal of improving and
enriching their knowledge and skills in Science Education.

III. OBJECTIVE:
i. Give additional helps to the learners who for one reason or another, have failed
their First Periodic Test and in their First Quarter final rating.
ii. Increased their level of mastery towards the learning competencies required by
Forces & Motion, Work, Power & Energy topics.

IV. METHODOLOGY:
In order to ensure proper implementation of the activity, the following are hereby
undertaken.
1. A Request Letter for the conduct of the activity was submitted to the School
Principal through the recommendation of the Department Head.
2. Parents were notified for the conduct of the activity through sending an information
message through Facebook messenger or text message.
3. A notification letter and agreement form on the schedule of the activity was
forwarded to the participants.

V. EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS
The 2-day remedial workshop is for Grade 8 Science students who did not meet the
minimum passing rate on the Periodic Test and in the First Quarter Rating period.

VII. SOCIO-ECONOMIC JUSTIFICATION

All parents and guardian of the participants are properly notified about the upcoming
remedial session.

VIII. SUSTAINABILITY:
The parents together with the teacher will oversee the progress of the imminent
activity.
