II. Answer the following Questions.

Question – 1
(i) Study the diagram given below and answer the questions that follow.

Which one of the above has greater density? Give reason. [2M]
(ii) A car travels with a speed of 54 km h-1. Calculate the distance travelled by the car in 10min. [3M]

(i) In the picture given below, pins – P,Q,R,S are stuck to a steel rod with wax.
The rod is heated from one end.

a) What do you observe after some time? [1M]

b) State the reason for your answer. [1M]

(ii) A laboratory thermometer A is kept 10 cm away on the side of the flame of a candle while [2M]
a similar thermometer B is kept 10 cm above the flame of a candle, as shown in the figure.

Which of the thermometers A or B will show a greater rise in temperature?

Give reason for your answer.
(iii) On a summer afternoon, when we touch a wooden chair we do not feel hot. Give reason. [1M]

(i) Amar puts his ear to the railway track and is able to hear the sound of an approaching train, [1M]
through the track.Chintu who is standing beside him could not hear the sound. Give reason.
(ii) An astronaut on the surface of moon observes an asteroid hit the moon at a distance from her, [2M]
but she cannot hear any sound. Explain the reason briefly.
(iii) In the diagrams given, identify the part that vibrates to produce sound. [2M]
