The table above shows the performance of the learners in the first quarter of the school year in the
English subject. It has an overall performance of 52.83% indicating that majority of the learners were
able to answer at least half of the number of the test correctly. As shown, Grade-10 had the highest
MPS of 58.43%, while Grade-7 and Grade-9 almost had the same results of 51.91% and 52.83%,
whereas Grade-8 had the lowest result of 48.11%.
The item analyses of the four grade levels reflected that difficult questions were well distributed in
almost all of the MELCs and most fell under the evaluating and creating level. The factor of garnering
these scores could be concluded in the following reasons such as the construction of the test questions
that students found difficult to understand, lessons were not yet fully mastered by majority of the
learners before proceeding to the next one, and students were very accustomed to the habit of always
choosing safe answers such as all the above and none of the above.
Since it’s the first ever periodical test after two years, it will serve as the starting point and basis in
effective delivery of the lesson and efficient construction of test questions.
