PART 1. EVALUATE

A. In your own words define a cylinder

● A Cylinder is a solid object with two identical flat ends that are circular or elliptical and one curved
side.

B. List down at least 3 properties of a cylinder.

1. The volume of the cylinder is the product of its right section and an element.
2. The lateral area of a cylinder is the product of the perimeter of a right section and an element. For a
right circular cylinder, the lateral area is the product of the circumference of the base and its
altitude.
3. In a right circular cylinder, every element equals the altitude.
C. Enumerate the parts of a cylinder and describe each in 1 sentence.
● Directrix- If the directrix is a closed curve, the surface generated by the generator is called a closed
cylindrical surface.
● The cylindrical surface is called the lateral surface while the parallel planes are called the bases.
● The altitude of a cylinder – is the perpendicular distance between its bases.
● A right section – is a section perpendicular to all the elements of the lateral surface.
● Circular cylinder- a cylinder with a right cross-section.
● A right circular cylinder- is a circular cylinder whose elements are perpendicular to the base.

D. Solve the following problems:

1. How many cubic feet are there in a cylinder 36 cm in diameter and 56 cm long?

𝐷 = 36 ÷ 2

𝑟 = 18𝑐𝑚

𝐻 = 56𝑐𝑚

2
𝑉 = π𝑟 ℎ

2
𝑉 = π(18 )(56)

𝑉 = 57, 001. 06 𝑐𝑢. 𝑐𝑚

57001.06 𝑐𝑢.𝑐𝑚 0.00003531466672 𝑐𝑢.𝑓𝑡.

𝑉= 1
( 1
)

V= 2.01 cu.ft

2. Find the capacity in gallons of a cylindrical tank 2.2 meters in diameter and 3.7meter high.

𝑑 = 2. 2 ÷ 2

𝑟 = 1. 1𝑚

ℎ = 3. 7𝑚

2
𝑉 = π𝑟 𝐻

2
𝑉 = 3. 1416(1. 1 )(3. 7)

V= 14.06 cu.m

ℎ = 20𝑐𝑚

𝐿𝐴 = 2π𝑟𝐻

PART 2. EXTEND
3 stars and a wish strategy
List the 3 things you have learned from the lesson:
1. I learned how to solve the volume of a cylinder.
2. I learned how to solve the total area of a cylinder.
3. I learned the parts and properties of a cylinder.

1 topic that you are confused

● I'm having trouble calculating the volume and total area of a cylinder, but I know how to do it. I'm
just confused sometimes, but with some concentration, I got the right answer.
