60 minutes
Duration (briefing 10 minutes, preparation 5 minutes, execution 30 minutes, and
debriefing 15 minutes)

Function Navigation at the operational level

Competence A-II/2 F1.C1: Plan a voyage and conduct navigation

A-II/2 F1.C1.KUP1: Voyage planning and navigation for all conditions by

acceptable methods of plotting ocean tracks, taking into account, e.g.:
.1 restricted waters.

Assessment At the end of the session the student should be able to determine the under-
Outcome keel and vertical clearance

Assessment Area Approved laboratory room

- US Tide Tables or Admiralty Tide Tables
Equipment Needed - Harbor chart covering the assigned area
- Calculator
Condition
The assessment shall be carried out and performed individually in an approved

standard within the time prescribed.

To demonstrate the required outcome, the student must perform the

performance criteria.

You are going to compute the heights of tide for a particular time of the
assigned port and for the under keel and vertical clearances.

Debriefing As per debriefing checklist.

1. Only students endorsed for re-sit by the subject teacher shall be given the re-sit.
2. Re-sit shall be given only when the AAC is provided with the copy of the
endorsement made by the subject teacher and duly signed by the Dean or
Academic Head (For AAC Facilitated Practical Assessment).
3. Only students who have not attained the minimum score of 50% in each
assessment administered are allowed for re-sit.
Re-Sit 4. Re-sit shall be given up to 3 times if the student failed the first time in a particular
assessment and if the student fails in all practical assessments, he shall be
advised to re-enroll the course.
5. Mark for Re-sits shall only have an equivalent of 50 %: therefore, this should not be
taken as a guarantee to pass the course as there are other components
considered.

The trainee will automatically be marked “not yet competent” if the critical item with * mark are not
done.

Rating or Grading Scheme: Score is either 1 or zero.

Result:
Grade: 50% and above = Passed
