Developing personal SMART goals for your chosen Sustainable Development Goals

Context
In the beginning of this topic, we discussed renewable and non-renewable resources. We worked
in groups to break down the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations
Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). These were:
Goal 6 - Clean Water
Goal 12 - Responsible consumption and production
Goal 13 - Climate Action
Goal 14 - Life Below Water
Goal 15 - Life on Land

These goals are quite large, far-reaching and long-term. They can be hard to think about on a large
scale as the big picture. It is important to keep in mind that big changes come from little changes
and your choices do matter.
Task
In this task, you will take a step back from these large goals and focus on small things you can do
every day to make a difference.

You need to develop three SMART Goals based on the SDGs. Choose one of the goals listed above,
choose one or more of the targets for the goal and then develop your SMART goals.

Smart goal 1:
SDG: Reduce food waste
Specific To reduce food waste I can stop using packaged foods.
Measurable My goal is measurable because I can see what I have done overtime.
Attainable My goal is attainable because many people are doing this too.
Relevant My goal is relevant because there is tons of food waste around Australia.
Time- I can start to do my goal right now.

Smart goal 2:
SDG: Access to safe drinking water
Specific I can see what safe drinking water and what not safe water looks like.
Measurable My goal is measurable because I can see how much water is needed for a healthy
lifestyle.
Attainable My goal is attainable because it will be pretty easy to see what water is safe.
Relevant My goal is relevant because people around Australia may not have access to safe
drinking water.
Time- I can start as soon as possible because I probably have enough time to do what I
bound want.

Smart goal 3:
SDG: Clean lakes, rivers, creeks and waterholes
Specific I can try to pick up any rubbish I see.
Measurable My goal is measurable because I can see how much rubbish I picked up.
Attainable My goal is attainable because I can see how much rubbish I have picked up.
Relevant My goal is relevant because sea creatures are struggling with tons of rubbish in
their environment.
Time- I can start doing this as soon as possible as I don’t have much time.
