A Study of Online Learning Experiences of HKBU University Students

A. Scope of study:
Because of the ferocious situation caused by Covid-19 pandemic, face-to-face learning in
HKBU has been suspended since 2020. In order to reduce the impact on students’
learning process, online learning has been widely adopted in most schools. So, the main
purpose of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of students’ online learning
experience. For instance, the perception of remote learning, the satisfaction of learning
experience, the sense of learning community, the effectiveness of online learning, and so
on. To be more focused, the sample that we are studying in this research will be Hong
Kong Baptist University students. Finally, in order to get the best result, the duration of
this study will be set as 2-3 weeks, depending on the situation.

B. Sampling frame:
To get a deepest understanding of this research, the sampling frame will be set as:
(i) HKBU Faculty of Arts
(ii) HKBU School of Business
(iii) HKBU School of Chinese Medicine
(iv) HKBU School of Communication
(v) HKBU Faculty of Science
(vi) HKBU Faculty of Social Sciences
(vii) HKBU Academy of Visual Arts
(viii) HKBU School of Continuing Education

C. Research Questions:
1. What are the effects of online learning on HKBU students in terms of learning
effectiveness, efficiency and sufficiency?

 2. How do the HKBU lecturers well prepare for online teaching regarding different
learning materials, students’ learning style, quality and environment?
3. What effect do different technologies and softwares have on the learning process
of HKBU students?
4. What are the difficulties faced by students during online learning?
5. What are the similarities between online learning and face-to-face learning in
HKBU?
6. What are the differences between online learning and face-to-face learning in
HKBU?
7. What are the most effective online learning strategies for improving HKBU
students’ academic performance?
8. To what extent online learning is better than face to face learning?

D. Questionnaire:

We are students from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), conducting a survey on
experience of online learning of HKBU students. All of the data collected will only be used for
academic purposes and deleted 3 months after the completion of study.
