Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

Chique Al Jane L. Pranga

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to:
1. Identify the GCF using Continuous Division Method
2. Understand the concept of the lesson, and;
3. Perform the steps in finding the GCF using Continuous Division Method in solving a
problem.

II. Subject Matter: Finding GCF using Continuous Division Method

Materials: Teacher-made worksheets, Cartolina, Calculator

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Pupils Activity

A. Preparation Activities
1. Prayer
Class let’s all stand up.
Before we start ___
lead the prayer

2. Greetings
Goodmorning class

3. Checking of attendance

Is everybody present for today?

B. Review
We discussed prime factorization
of 48, 80, and 96 in the previous
lesson.
2x2x2x2, Maam, are the factors that they have in
common.

What are the factors of 48, 80 48 – 2x2x2x2

and 96 class?
80 -2x2x2x2x5

96 -2x2x2x2x3
Yes, Ms. Abel

Very good.

We list down all their factors.

48 – 2x2x2x2

80 -2x2x2x2x5

96 -2x2x2x2x3

We simply check for common

factors

What factors they have in

common class?

Yes, Mr. Abo? 2x2x2x2, Maam, are the factors that they have in
common.

Very good, Mr. Abo.

Therefore the GCF of 48, 80, and

96 is 16.
The teacher will show the pupils a flashcards
about the topic.

Now let’s proceed to our topic.

Finding the GCF using Continuous Division

method

In order for us to find the GCF of 48, 80 and 96 we

must follow these 3 steps.

The first step is that we list down at least 5 prime

numbers.

What is prime number based on what I have

showed you earlier.
A number with exactly 2 factors which must be 1,
Very Good. and the number itself, Maam.

Can you give me at least 5 prime numbers class?

2, 5, 3, 7, 11 Maam.
Very Good, Ms. Agustin.

Class, our divisor should be divisible to all the

numbers.

48 80 96

Is 2 divisible by 48, 80 and 96? Yes, Maam.

Very Good! Yes, Maam.

Now we can evenly divide them without a

remainder.

Okay we can now proceed to step 2.

Divide the given numbers to a prime number

where it is divisible. Remember that our divisor
should always be a prime number.
Just follow the same process.

Is 24,40 and 48 divisible by 2?

Is 12, 20 and 24 divisible by 2? Yes Maam!

Step 3 continuously divide the given numbers to a

prime number where it is divisible.

When was the time we should stop dividing?

When there is no common factor except 1,

Maam.
Very Good, Ms.Reyes.
Until all numbers have no common factors
except 1 or what we call ‘relatively prime’

Let’s check is 3, 5 and 6 divisible by 2?

3 and 5 is not divisible by 2 but divisible by 6.

Very Good

Remember class that our divisor should always be

divisible by two or more numbers.

So therefore we can now stop dividing.

To find the GCF copy the divisor and solve.

2x2x2x2 = 16. The GCF of 48 80 and 96 is 16.

Did you understand class?

Okay let’s have another example listen carefully Another example Maam.
after this you will be having an exercises.
39, 52 and 65

List down atleast 5 prime number for our basis (2,

5,7, 11)

Is 2 divisible by these three numbers?

No, Maam
So now in order for us to find the divisor that is
divisible by 39, 52 and 65 we will list down the
prime numbers 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19.

Now, class among these prime number listed on

the board which number do you think is divisible
by 39, 52 and 65?

Yes Ms. Ali? Our divisor is 13 Maam. Because it is divisible by

all the given numbers.
Okay very good. 13 is our divisor

So therefore the GCF of 39,52 and 65 is 13.

E. Application
By rows, categorize the class. A representative
from each group will be assigned to answer the
question on the board.

Find GCF using Continuous Division.

1. 36, 60 and 72
2.3³, 72, 6²
3.5², 20, 5x11
4.27 45 54
5. 6 24 30

F.Generalization:

When finding GCF using Continuous Division

when was the time we stop dividing?

Yes. Mr. Mohamad Maam when the quotient is relatively prime

which means they have no more common divisors
except 1.
Very Good.

IV. Evaluation
Find Greatest Common Factor of the numbers
shown using Continuous Division Method.

1. 56, 42 and 98
2. 80 16 and 96
3.14 49 7
4.16 72 80
5. 4 37 51
6. 8 57 34
7. 24 90 78
8. 77 49 56
9. 77 33 22
10. 65 39 13
