Chemy 101 Experiment..1 Data Sheet The Equation for A m3=25.7499g

Reaction

Aim: To determine the molar ratio between sodium hydrogen

carbonate and hydrochloric acid when they react.

A:Preliminary Test :
NaHCO3 (s) + HCl (aq) NaCl(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O(g)

Observations:
1-a What happened to lime water ? Become milkey

Why ? CO2 changes lime water to CaCO2 and this CaCO3 is milky product (because
of CaCO3, formation)

1-b Write a complete equation for reaction

CO2(g) + Ca (OH )2 (aq) CaCO3(s)+ H2O(I)

2- What happened to the lit splint ?

it turned off

Why ?

Co2 does not support burning

B: Equation of a reaction
1-Mass of empty evaporating dish =25.3412 g

2-Mass of NaHCO3 = 0.601 g

3- Mass of empty evaporating dish and (NaCl) after heating = 25.7499 g

4-Mass of residue(NaCl) = 0.4087 g

5-Moles Of NaHCO3= MassNaHCO3 / MMNaHCO3= 0.601g / 84.008g/mole = 7.15x10^-
3 mole

6-Moles of NaCl = Mass NaCl / MMNaCl = 0.4087g / 58.44g/mole =6.9965 x 10^-3

mole

7- Moles of NaHCO3 : Moles of NaCl

NaHCO3=7.15 x 10^-3/6.9935 x 10^-3=1.02=1

NaCl=6.9935 x 10^-3 / 6.9935 x 10^-3=1

1:1

8- The balanced equation is

NaHCO3(s) + HCl (aq) NaCl(aq)+ CO(g) + H2O(l)

9- Test of Cl-

observation :

white precipitates of AgCl

NaCl + AgNO3 NaNO3(aq) + AgCl(s)

Conclusion:.

The raito between NaHCO3 and NaCl is 1:1
