SOCIAL SCIENCE – the study of society and the manner in which people behave and influence the world

around
us.

⮚ A branch of science that deals with the institutions and functioning human society and with the interpersonal
relationships of individuals as members of society.

BRANCHES OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

1. HISTORY - something that belongs to the past

2. SOCIAL STUDIES- is the study of history ,people or society.
3. ECONOMICS – a science concerned with the process or system by which goods and services are produced , and
bought.

4. PSYCHOLOGY - the science or study of the mind and behavior.

- scientific study of the behavior of individuals and their mental processes.

scientific - empirical and uses the principles of the scientific method.

- thinking , planning , reasoning ,creating and dreaming.

Goals of Psychology

⮚ The goals of psychology are to describe , explain, predict and control human behavior and mental processes.

5. SOCIOLOGY – the study of society , social institutions and social relationship.


-provides a study of relationships between society and the educational processes which contribute
to the analysis and solution to problems confronting the educational system.

6. ANTHROPOLOGY - science that studies the origin and development of man , his work , and achievements which
includes the study of physical , intellectual , moral , social and cultural development of man , including his customs ,
mores , folkways and beliefs.
Culture - the shared products of human learning.

- The set of learned behaviors , beliefs , attitudes , values , and ideals that are characteristic of a particular
society and population.
- The complex whole which includes knowledge , beliefs , arts , laws , morals , customs and other
capabilities of man as a member of society.

7. GEOGRAPHY – an area of study that deals with the location of countries , cities , rivers , mountains , lakes etc.

8. POLITICAL SCIENCE – the branch of social science which deals with the study of all the current socio-political aspects
like government.

⮚ The group of people who control and make decisions of a country , state , etc.
⮚ A particular system used for controlling a country , state , etc.
⮚ The process or manner of controlling a country , state , etc.

9. ARCHEOLOGY - study of human cultures , through the recovery , documentation , and analysis of material remains
and environmental data including architecture.

10. LINGUISTICS – the study of language and of the way language work.

11. PHILOSOPHY – the study of relationships between nations and cultures.

- the study of ideas about knowledge , truth , the nature and meaning of life.

17. MACROECONOMICS - branch of economics dealing with the performance , structure , behavior.

18. GENDER STUDIES – integrate several social and natural sciences to study gender comma identity ,
masculinity , feminity , transgender issues , and sexuality.
19. PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION - is one of the main branches of political science and can be broadly described
as the development , implementation and study of philosophy , political science , psychology , public
administration.
20. LAWS - are based on norms accepted by a community and thus have an ethical foundation.
21. SOCIAL WORK - focuses on social change , problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment
and liberation people to enhance social justice.
22. SOCIAL MEDIA – offers us the opportunity to observe human behavior and interaction in real time and on
global scale.
