1. OBJECTIVES

1.1 To compare the theoretical to practical/simulation of amplifier voltage gain.


1.2 To determine the effect of the load to the amplifier voltage gain.
1.3 To sketch the AC load line.
1.4 To observe and analyse the effect of unbypassed emitter resistor

3. INTRODUCTION

In this lab, the common-emitter configuration will be investigated. This common emitter amplifier
typically uses a self-biasing scheme and has a relatively linear output. The common-emitter amplifier
is characterized by high voltage (Av) and current gain (Ai). The amplifier typically has a relatively
high input resistance (1 to 10k ohms) and is generally used to drive medium to high resistance loads.
The circuit for the common-emitter can be seen in Figure 1. It is used in applications where a small
voltage signal needs to be amplified to a large voltage signal. Since the amplifier cannot drive low
resistance loads, it is usually cascaded with a buffer that can acts as a driver.

4. PRE-LAB TASK

4.1 Based on Figure 2, illustrate and explain the equivalent circuit for AC analysis. [4 marks]

4.2 Prepare a datasheet for the transistor 2N2222 (Attach as a report appendix) [1 mark]
5. LAB PROCEDURES

i. Construct the amplifier circuit as shown in FIGURE 2. All the values as stated.
ii. Calibrate/adjust the oscilloscope provided in Multisim.
iii. Connect the input of amplifier through a coupling capacitor CC1 to as signal generator/AC power
source. Set the signal generator/AC power source output (VIN) to 0.1Vpp at 1kHz.
iv. Sketch/capture and label the input and output signal for case in Table 1
v. Draw and label the AC load line based on experimental/simulation result.

Note: State and capture ALL the observation and outcome from the simulation to be included in Lab
Report.

7. DISCUSSION

i. Based on calculation and simulation obtained results, interpret the AC Load Line for a transistor.

ii. State the phase relation between input and output voltage for the CE amplifier based on observation.
[1 mark]

iii. Compare the transistor 2N3904 to 2N2222


[1 mark]

8. CONCLUSION
Conclude the operational of CE Amplifier based on Lab3 outcome and relate to the stated objectives.
