3. INTRODUCTION
In this lab, the common-emitter configuration will be investigated. This common emitter amplifier
typically uses a self-biasing scheme and has a relatively linear output. The common-emitter amplifier
is characterized by high voltage (Av) and current gain (Ai). The amplifier typically has a relatively
high input resistance (1 to 10k ohms) and is generally used to drive medium to high resistance loads.
The circuit for the common-emitter can be seen in Figure 1. It is used in applications where a small
voltage signal needs to be amplified to a large voltage signal. Since the amplifier cannot drive low
resistance loads, it is usually cascaded with a buffer that can acts as a driver.
4.1 Based on Figure 2, illustrate and explain the equivalent circuit for AC analysis. [4 marks]
4.2 Prepare a datasheet for the transistor 2N2222 (Attach as a report appendix) [1 mark]
5. LAB PROCEDURES
i. Construct the amplifier circuit as shown in FIGURE 2. All the values as stated.
ii. Calibrate/adjust the oscilloscope provided in Multisim.
iii. Connect the input of amplifier through a coupling capacitor CC1 to as signal generator/AC power
source. Set the signal generator/AC power source output (VIN) to 0.1Vpp at 1kHz.
iv. Sketch/capture and label the input and output signal for case in Table 1
v. Draw and label the AC load line based on experimental/simulation result.
Note: State and capture ALL the observation and outcome from the simulation to be included in Lab
Report.
