Background

Common Source (CS) configuration of single stage MOSFET amplifier can

Offer substantial voltage gain in combination with large input impedance.
When operated at relatively low frequencies, the CS amplifier can be
modeled replacing the MOSFET with small signal equivalent Circuit that
uses only two parameters, Namely, gate transconductance gm and output
resistance ro. Both of these parameters are dependent on MOSFET bias, i.e

DC drain current set by bias circuit.

Procedure:
1- Connect the circuit shown in the figure below.

2- Using a DC multimeter, measure the Q-point (VGS, ID, VDS), and

determine the transistor region of operation.

VGS=………………………………, ID=……………………….,
VDS=………………………………, gm =…………................................
ro=…………………………………..
the transistor in ……………….. region

3- Set the function generator to a small input of 0.02 Vp, f=l kHz.

4- Observe and recorded the input and output signal amplitudes and
waveforms. Calculate the midband voltage gain; Phase shift

5- Measure the voltage drop across the series resistance (Rs=100Ω resistance
using CRO, and then calculate the input current (ii). Also measure the current
thought the drain resistance (io). Calculate the current gain of the circuit
using:

6- Calculate the power gain using:

𝐴𝑤 = 𝐴𝑣 × 𝐴𝑖
Measurement of input and output resistances

Procedure:

1- Measure the voltage of the function generator (just before Rsig) and that
after Rsig. Use the following equation to calculate R:
