Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can continue
your studies and learn while at home; Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and
discussion are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step as you
discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM. This will tell
you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or
your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the end of each module,
you need to answer the post-test to self-check your learning. Answer keys are provided for
each activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.

1 Harvested Crops
This module will help you to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitude
in handling and packaging harvested crops. In this module, you will also know
the techniques in handling harvested crops; characteristic of quality packed
product and understand the importance of quality packaging.

What Is It
Have you observed the products that you are buying? Can you
tell something about your observations? Fruit crops need careful handling
to ensure that these can be sold at a profitable price. Proper handling of
harvested crops increases the market price of the products. Farmers
should know how to handle his harvest in order to get the most out of it.
Remember you are not only producing for your own but if you will
produce quality product your friend or neighbor might be your first
customer. Later, you will be having more buyers. Unknowingly you are
already an entrepreneur so it is important to acquire skills on how to pack
your products. Creativity should be applied to produce quality packaging.
Entrepreneurs should always think of ways and means to attract or
encourage their buyers to buy their products. One of these are the proper
sorting, labelling then packaging. Products must be packed individually
and labelled according to brand, the date when manufactured and where
it was manufactured.

Care should be properly observed to prevent blemishes and
damages to the fruits.
When packing fruits, they must be arranged properly in
containers according to size and quality.

prevent them from being damaged.
1. Gently lay down the box or crates containing the fruits to prevent
blemishes and cracks on the fruits placed at the bottom of the
container.
2. In piling, big containers must be placed at the bottom first before
piling small containers.
3. Do not make the pile too high to prevent containers on the top to fall.
4. Never step on the pile that you made.
5. In transporting packed fruits to distant markets through transport
vehicles, careful driving should be done to prevent damages to the
products.
