Name: Marlo Ace G. Cañas Year/Sec: 2nd-B

Subject: General Chemistry Score: ______
Instructor: Rosario R. Velasco

V. Activity:
Instructions: Read carefully the given situation below and answer the question that follow.

Your cat gives birth on your favorite sofa bed cover and it has blood stain all over, what is worse
is that the blood has already dried up. You tried washing it with the best detergent, but the
blood can’t be removed and you don’t want to spoil the color of the bed cover. What will you
do to remove the stain in the cover without spoiling its color? Ans. I will ask my mother to help
me on how to remove the blood stain on my sofa bed cover because she’s the expert of
cleaning. She said that I will soak my fabric for 30 minute and rub it with salt or lemon juice in
order to remove the blood stain.

VI. Evaluation:

1. Why do we call chemistry a study of matter? Explain.

-Chemistry is a study of matter because they can undergo from one form to another. It
involves properties, composition, structure, and changes, as well as the laws and the
principles which govern these changes.
2. In the activity of part V of this module, identify the different kinds of matter found in the
given situation.
-The different kinds of mass are water, blood, person, and cat.
3. What do you think are the changes that took place before and after washing the sofa
bed cover?
-it has chemical change because I put some removal products in order to get the stain.
4. Identify the following whether it is a physical change or a chemical change.
a. Boiling water answer: Physical change
b. Souring of milk answer: Chemical change
c. Making vinegar answer: Chemical Change
d. Ignition of matches answer: chemical change
e. Melting of ice answer: Physical change

I. Evaluation:

A. Explain scientific method in 3-5 sentences. Write your answer in the box provided
below.
The scientific method is a type of hypothesis or testable explanation. The scientific method is a
research method in which a problem is identified, relevant data are gathered, a hypothesis is formed
from these data, and the hypothesis is empirically tested. It entails making conjectures (hypotheses),
deriving predictions from them as logical consequences, and then carrying out experiments or
empirical observations based on those predictions.

B. Explain the steps of scientific method.

Identifying a specific issue.

Problem
It is a method of observing a problem and asking questions about it.
Observation
An educated guess based on prior observations to explain the phenomenon
Hypothesis
occurring It provides an answer to the question posed in the previous step.

It is the method of an experiment that must be set up and carried out in

Experimentation
order to test the hypothesis.

It summarizes how your findings support or refute your original hypothesis.
