I. OVERVIEW

Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sets and the
real number system.

Performance Standard
The learner formulates challenging situations involving sets and real
numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies.

Transfer Goal
The learner will be able to apply the key concepts of sets and real
numbers system in finding solution to real life problem.

Performance Task
At the end of the quarter, the learner will be able to perform the given
task:
You are a product specialist and you work for a company that sells
ballers among students. For its newest design, the company manufactured three
colors: blue, black and white. To make sure that the company produces just the
right number of ballers for each color, the product supervisor asked you to
conduct a survey among 50 students on their preferred color of ballers. You are
then to present the results of the survey using a Venn diagram and a detailed
report about its implications. Complete your report using the concepts of sets
and Venn diagrams. Tor work will be graded based on its organization,
accuracy, clarity of the report, and timeliness of completion of the task.

II. INTRODUCTION
Hello!
Do you have a collection of things like art materials and fancy ballpens at home? Are you
one of those people who tends to collect bags, shoes, and books? Why do you think people
collect a set of items? If you are to collect a set of items, what would it be? Why?

2
This module in Mathematics is designed for you my dear student. This will bring you to
the world of sets. It will build your math skills through activities that will make learning math
easier and more fun! You will discover how the concept of sets can be used on a daily basis.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the teaching-learning process presented in this module are:

1. describe sets, subsets, universal sets, null sets and cardinality of sets;
2. list all the subsets of the given set;
3. write the elements of the set using rule and roster method; and
4. relate the concept of sets in real-life situation.

III. PRE-ASSESSMENT

Let’s find out how much you already know about numbers and number sense.
Answer the questions below.

Directions: Encircle the letter that you think best answers the question.

1. If set A={ 1, 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 }, which of the following sets is a subset of A?

A. B={} C. D= {1 , 3,6 }
