1. What are the conic sections?

To take cross sections of a cone you can create a circle, an ellipse, parabola and
hyperbola.

2. As a future engineer, why is it important to study conic sections?

As a future engineer, Conic sections for me is useful because things that are easily
broken can be stronger because of the right angle or position of a thing. If the power
plant is just straight their is a high possibility that the power plant will fall down, that
is why we need this right conic section on building because if we just build it without
using conic sections it may easily fall.

CIRCULAR

Car tires are a good example of circular conic because they

have to be exactly round or the car will nor run correctly. The
tires and wheels being circles is useful and important because
without that, car rides would be very bumpy and
uncomfortable.

Doughnut is a perfect example of a circle. The shape is prime factorization of

the delicacy. It allows a baker to induce a heat distribution to create an evenly
baked delicious doughnut.

ELLIPSE

Beijing National Stadium is an elliptical shape. This

is useful and important because it will allow the
maximum amount of supporters be able to attend
each home game as possible.

Eye is an ellipse! It is a horizontal ellipse, the eye ball can

be considered the center and the surrounding shape forms
and ellipse, the minor axis is vertical and the major axis is
horizontal across the eye. The two ends of the eye can be
considered as vertex.
PARABOLA

Roller coasters are a good example of parabola because they

curve in one direction. It is useful for roller coasters to have this
conic shape because it gives the riders the anticipation of
climbing up a hill, reaching the peak, and coasting down at high
speeds.

This is also a good example

because it shows that parabolas
can point up or in a positive
direction too. They are helpful
because it keep the bridge from
falling. Without the curve of the
bridge, it would not be stable
enough to be used for
transportation.

HYPERBOLA

Nuclear Cooling Towers are

example of hyperbolic shape.
It is used due to its ability to
withstand high winds, while
also making it in the most
efficient was possible.

HYPERBOLA
Hourglass is a great example of a hyperbola because in the middle of the glass on both
sides, the glass comes in with an arch. The hyperbola in a hourglass is useful because
before we had clocks they were used to tell when a hour had passed.
