The application of coiled tubing for water

shut off in Rumaila oilfield

1- mobilize coiled tubing to location and rig up equipment and

perform pressure test
2- Forward circulate brine (with specific Density and Volume) from
annulus to flare pit via tubing to kill the well with maximum
pumping pressure.
3- Stop pumping and monitor the shut-in wellhead pressure, then
open the choke and bleed off tubing and annulus excess pressure.
4- Repeat pumping brine down tubing until the well is displaced by
brine.
5- Monitor the wellhead pressure after well kill for 30 minutes and
confirm the wellhead pressure is 0 psi.
6- Run in hole with coiled tubing to tag hold-up target depth. Pull up
coiled tubing to 1 m upper from target depth and circulate 200 bbls
of 1.1 sg brine water to clean the hold-up depth.
7- Start mixing spacer and cement slurry as per the recipe showed in
Table 2 and Table 3.
8- With the back pressure no more than 200 psi at coiled tubing /
tubing annulus, start pumping 30 bbls fresh water to ensure the
nozzle is clear.
9- Continue as per the schedule and procedures showed in the Table
4. Set bbl counter at zero on pumping unit and begin pumping the
4 bbls spacer. Return the bbl counter to zero, begin pumping the
cement slurry. Return the bbl counter to zero, begin pumping 4
bbls of spacer followed by 1.1sg brine. When 2 barrels of cement
are out of the coiled tubing nozzle, start pull out of hole while
pumping at 0.7 bpm and coiled tubing correspondent speed of 7
m/min. When 10 bbls of cement is out of the nozzle (the top of
cement should be at 3240 m), stop pumping and continue pull out
of hole with coiled tubing to 3225 m (15 m above the top of
cement). Once the second 4 bbls spacer is out of nozzle, continue
pumping 200 bbls of 1.1 sg brine (two times of coiled tubing and
coiled tubing / tubing volume). After 200 bbls of 1.1 sg brine is
pumped, pull out of hole with coiled tubing to surface while
pumping brine at minimum rate to compensate for the coil
displacement volume (approximate 0.25 – 0.3 bpm). Leave the
cement in wellbore for minimum 24 hours with minimum 200 psi
well head pressure maintained.

10-Run in hole with coiled tubing and tag the top of cement after
a minimum of 24 hours waiting of cementation. Confirm the top
of cement at 3240 m. Perform pressure test to cement and
casing to 1500 psi for 30 minutes. Perform nitrogen under-
balance for coming perforation operation. Pull out of hole with
coiled tubing. Rig down coiled tubing and nitrogen unit and
demobilize the equipment. Rig up E-line equipment with
perforation gun and perform pressure test. Perform a dummy
run (mechanical drift run). Perforate the 3102 m3110 m and
3141 m3163 m intervals using perforation gun. Open the well
and try to divert the flowing well to degassing station. If the well
is not flowing then the coiled tubing nitrogen lift is required to
kick off the well.
